Anytime you make the auto shift faster, you hurt it. However, probably the difference it will make is negligable. You're kind of making a poor man's "comfort/power" switch for the tranny. I doubt it will affect it too much. Just keep your tranny fluid clean. Anyone care to offer another opinion?

Its not terrible for the tranny. My friend did it to his 96 240 and it was pretty nice. Fast as #### but shifted hard , not too comfortable of a ride. Only complaint i have is that it will make your check engine light come on. And that bastard will stay there for 100 turns of the key...no more no less. I wouldn't reccomend it simply because i hate warning lights. If you are ok with those...then by all means.

i did it and i hated the check engine light and the push me in my pants feeling every time it shifted..... so i dunno..... i believe that the gains are negligeble its just a "feeling" that you get from it.... nothing more.

what you are doing according to my trans man, Gary , is putting the tranny in high line i.e. more fluid pressure which causes it to shift later and harder. Its ok to do it for a little while but if you do it for a mong time it will take its toll on the tranny. I did it with mine for about 3K before I swapped in my 5 speed. My auto is now sitting comfortably at its new home waiting for someone to come buy a low mileage auto. I am happy because I traded it for other parts and I an driving 5 speed. All in all a good thing.

how much did the swap cost you?

well its really hard to say. the reason being I bought a lot of parts at once and sold off a lot which lowered my costs quite a bit. I am now at a deficit of $430 for the swap.
Normally the parts would have been about $500-550 and the labor at $300-$350 now remember I paid extra for a 98 5 speed with 8,000 miles on it.
The average cost of a low mileage 5 speed like that is $400-450
the swap parts are about $250 you can sometimes get a tranny for anywhere from $250-$350 but the mileage will be higher. LIke I said though I picked up a whole bunch of parts and sold a lot off .
