Thats the image thats been floating around.

I guess its the stated IronMan suit.

DISCUSS!

May 08, we've got time to wait dammit.

Thoughts on Robert Downey Jr?

I personally thing they shoulda gotten a better, more gritty actor.

He's a dead drunk hasbeen IMHO.

Personally I like the whole comic book movie deal going on right now. I was a huge comic book fan when I was a child an its cool too see my favorite characters on the big screen. And I really don’t think their going too stop anytime soon . I mean most of the comics have a huge fan base already and the story line is pretty much laid out in front of them. So I think we are going too be seeing a lot more of these movies.

From all the images I've seen, Robert Downey Jr. makes a hell of a Tony Stark. Looks like him (facial hair!), and Tony Stark was an alcoholic womanizer who was rich and famous...JUST like RDJ. I think He'll be able to make a more believeable Tony Stark, because he knows the character. The mark I armour also looks GREAT. It's not the exact same trashcan Iron Man, but it's a reinvention of it and it looks damn good. Iron Man's main costume has changed SO MUCH in the years, that I don't really even mind as long as it's red and gold and looks similar to previous ones...lol.

I already read, that if this does well they are making a sequel. They are going to shift over and focus on Tony's drug problems then, I'm guessing they'd introduce War Machine since Rhodes is in the first one. Sounds like they're setting everything up. I have to say...I'm REALLY looking forward to this.

-"Iron Man, Iron Man. Does whatever an iron can!"

-"That's SPIDER Man, you idiot!"

Oh yah i forgot about Lobo...DC equivalence to wolverine or venom.

Jon Michael
05-16-2007, 06:23 AM
Lobo is the DC equivalent of nothing. He's the MAIN MAN, case closed. Only thing equivalent to him is Fonzi...and even then, Fonzi needs chains and a cigar to be as cool.

*Lobo falls out of chair* "OH MY GOD, A MOSQUITO!!!" *Lobo proceeds to unload both his guns on the wall*

I think this movie is going to be awesome. they got the right actor to play tony stark because we all know RDJ is a "ex" drug addict, alcoholic and womaniser. Hell in all sense that is tony stark. I just hope that it's not all special effect and no story because then it will be another Spidey 3.

Also thi summer is going to be another badass summer for movies with the new batman movie and sin city movie coming out

Awesome movie. I ignored most of these "Ironman" threads so I did not expect SLJ to be Nick Fury at the end. I think it will work, that holocost of a movie that David Hasselhoff did "Nick Fury Agent of Sheild" sucked so much [email protected] SLJ is a bad ass and should handle this role well.

Downey Jr. was meant to be ironman. He actually fits the role of ironman in the comics. He did a great job acting but could have just played himself in this role that is how natural it was.

I still have not seen this movie but upon some research on the Captain America The First Avenger movie, I came across this website.

http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/05/09/captain-americas-shield-found-in-iron-man/

Not sure if this is a repost, so sorry if it is.

this scene is seen in the trailer, but the shield is taken out i think.

If you look closely in this picture, behind Tony Stark on some kind of table is what looks like to be Captain America's shield.
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m271/disepyon/ironman-cptamerica-shield.jpg

and those that are to lazy to open up the link to read ill paste it here.

by Alex Billington

You might have thought that all Marvel buzz was over as of last week with the announcement of their upcoming line-up - but guess again. I have confirmed myself, along with our comic book expert Roman Chavez, in person that Captain America's shield is actually in Iron Man. Yes, you heard me right, and if you need to go out and see it again this weekend I suggest you do. We'll provide the information on when and where it shows up below if you care to go find it, but we're pretty damn sure this is it. As for what this means for the Marvel universe and future movies - who knows? I thought Captain America wasn't around at this time and I thought he got his shield from S.H.I.E.L.D.?

The scene in which you can see the shield is after Iron Man returns from Afghanistan after fighting with the Mark III red/gold armor for the very first time. Right after he fights the two F-22 fighter jets, it shows him back in his lab trying to remove his armor but having trouble. Right as Pepper Potts walks down into his lab and asks him "what is he doing?", the shield can be seen sitting on one of his tables behind him in the lower left corner. This happens around 1 hour and 30 minutes into the movie. Make sure to account for trailers if you're going in. We confirmed it at a 6:40PM showing and the scene played at around ~8:18PM. Here is a very low quality photo just for reference. It looks much better in the movie.

The shield is actually red, white, and blue, although you can't see the red in the photo. But if you see the scene in the theater, the shield is actually there and very identifiable. It looks like it is half-constructed and being built by Tony Stark, but you can definitely see the unique star. It is a round shield with circular red, white, and blue stripes. What does this mean?

Apparently Captain America was actually given his round shield from the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization when he was found in modern times, which could make sense in this universe. Maybe Tony Stark has been building a shield, for whatever reasons, and eventually S.H.I.E.L.D., who was revealed at the end of the movie, will find out about it at a future point and suggest they give it to Captain America for his use. And this means maybe it will involve some sort of awesome Tony Stark technology instead of just being a metal object he throws around. How about that for a concept?

There are so many considerations and ideas for discussion surrounding this reveal, that almost anything right now is valid. The common reaction seems to be "that is very interesting" with much speculation thereafter. Why is Tony Stark building a shield when, as far as we know, Captain America hasn't been introduced and isn't around? Is Samuel Jackson's appearance at the end and mention of other superheroes in this universe a hint that Captain America is already around? What do you make of this?

What do you guys think, if you read the replys on that link too.

I do not think i agree with the guy that said this, but i do believe in the shield being there

Lets continue this thread until part 2 comes out

So here's a update

Jon Favreau has let it be known that production on his sequel to IRON MAN has begun. He tells the LA Times that...

"We're working on it now... which hasn't been officially announced. It will be released in 2010."

dont know about you but im kinda excited and relieved. probably heard about the rumors where they said that Favreau might not return back for the second movie and someone else would take ever...yeah, i almost shitted my pants.

EXTRA SLAP: so, any suggestions as to what villains Stark will be facing this time?

I hope they bring up Mandarin. One of this TenRings has been assaulted, and would want to stop that shit ASAP.

Swift justice on his part.

but if they wanna keep it real... then i say go with Alcoholism.

Alcoholism > Tony Stark.

Too damn early to bring in warmachine IMHO.

They haven't really fleshed out Stark, why are they going to rush another character into the fray?

If they do, it'll be like Spiderman 3. With suits.

Howard Says Being Replaced Was 'Surprise of a Lifetime'

by Matt McDaniel | October 21, 2008

http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mo/pseudoblog_terrencehoward133.jpg (http://movies.yahoo.com/photos/red-carpet/gallery/775/iron-man-uk-premiere#photo2) Many people were stunned by the news last week that Don Cheadle (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1800020725), and not Terrence Howard (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1800025200), would be playing the role of James "Rhodey" Rhodes in "Iron Man 2 (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810026429/info)." None more so, apparently, than Terrence Howard himself.

Howard recently spoke to NPR (http://www.npr.org/) to promote his first album, "Shine Through It (http://music.yahoo.com/ar-61579008---Terrence-Howard)," and the topic of being replaced in the sequel to the hugely popular comic book adaptation came about. And the Oscar-nominated actor sounded as confused as anyone about the rationale behind the change.

"It was the surprise of a lifetime. There was no explanation, [it] just up and vanished. And I read something in the trades that implicated it was about money... but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren't worth the paper that they're printed on sometimes. And promises aren't kept, and good faith negotiations aren't always held up." Hear the full interview >> (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=95833828) Marvel Studios, who produced "Iron Man (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808411893/info)," offered no comment when the story originally broke. But The Hollywood Reporter spoke to sources who stated that negotiations with the actor "fell through over financial differences," which Howard disputes.
http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mo/pseudoblog_warmachine133.jpg (http://movies.yahoo.com/photos/movie-stills/gallery/1096/iron-man-design-art#photo15)The announcement especially confused fans of the comic book since it is widely believed the character of Rhodey will have a bigger part in the sequel. Towards the end of the first film, Rhodes looked at Tony Stark's second attempt at the Iron Man armor, the silver "Mark II" version, and said to himself, "Next time, baby." This was a hint that Rhodes would get his own armor, just like he did in the comics. His upgraded and more heavily armed suit goes by the name War Machine, and concept designs for the character have already been created.
Don Cheadle, an Oscar nominee in his own right, has not issued a statement about the casting. Cheadle and Howard both appeared in the 2005 Best Picture winner "Crash (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808631706/info)." Robert Downey Jr. (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1800010914) and Gwyneth Paltrow (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1800018601) are both expected to return for the sequel, as is director Jon Favreau (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1800018685).
For his part, Howard doesn't seem to be holding onto any grudges. He is touring in support of his album, a collection of self-penned, jazz-inspired tunes on which he sings and plays guitar. He told NPR he is trying to hold onto the calm nature he developed growing up in a tough neighborhood.

"I found a peacefulness in me, though, that -- even in getting slapped when I was a little kid, when I would get attacked -- even though I was strong enough to stop it I would never hit back, back then... Even now, I didn't hit back." "Iron Man 2" is scheduled to open May 7, 2010.

Okay, lets be honest Mel.

Who looks like they've dealt with more stress? Cheadle? or Howard?

The roles Howard has played prior to IronMan REALLY drive it home for him. He can handle the Bottled-Anger-Thats-Gonna-Explode-in-your-FACE role. He's got that military 'nice' to him, at the same time is intimidating as hell compared to Cheadle.

Cheadle has played some good roles, but none that i've seen match up to the cailber of Rhodey. Howard needs to get in that suit IRL and FUCK Cheadle up.

Not saying I prefer Cheadle over Howard, but it's done and I'm not terribly dissapointed because I think Cheadle is a capable actor. I loved this movie.

Samuel L. Jackson Talks Briefly On 'Iron Man 2' and Don Cheadle

While doing interviews for his latest film, 'Soul Men' in Los Angeles, Samuel L. Jackson talked briefly about his return as Nick Fury in the sequel to 'Iron Man' and working with Don Cheadle, who has replaced Terrence Howard in the role of Jim Rhodes. In the first film, Nick Fury appears to Tony Stark in his house letting him know that he wants to start the Avengers initiative.
Are we going to see more of Nick Fury in 'Iron Man 2'?
Samuel L. Jackson: I saw Jon Favreau last night (at the Scream Awards), and he told me we were. I was standing next to George Lucas and he said to me, 'Hey! I hope you are making your deal with them (Paramount)' and I was like, 'Really' (Laughs)
Are you excited to be working with Don Cheadle?
SLJ: Yes. Don and I are good friends and I think it's going to be an exciting difference. We'll see what happens. It's kind of amazing how (the switch from Terrence Howard to Don Cheadle) that happened.

Why Did Marvel Recast Rhodes in Iron Man 2?
Source:Entertainment Weekly (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20236884,00.html)
November 1, 2008

Why did Marvel Studios recast Col. Jim Rhodes in Iron Man 2 (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=44655)? The surprise announcement that Don Cheadle was taking over the role from Terrence Howard in the sequel (and now The Avengers (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=44657)) left many fans wondering what happened. Entertainment Weekly (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20236884,00.html) has an article possibly explaining how this came to be:

Hollywood insiders believe the exit stems from Terrence Howard's difficult behavior on the set of Iron Man. But those with intimate knowledge of the situation suggest a far more dramatic backstory: Howard was the first actor signed to the film and, on top of that, was the highest-paid. That's right: more than Gwyneth Paltrow. More than Jeff Bridges. More than Robert Downey Jr. And once the project fully came together, it was too late to renegotiate his deal. It didn't help that, according to one source, Favreau and his producers were ultimately unhappy with Howard's performance, and spent a lot of time cutting and reshooting his scenes. (Favreau could not be reached for comment, while Howard's publicist says: ''Terrence had a tremendous experience working on Iron Man.'')

You can read the full article here (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20236884,00.html).

UGO: You got involved with the script for Iron Man 2 because of your work with Robert Downey Jr…
JT: Robert introduced me to those guys over at Marvel.
UGO: How psyched were you?
JT: I was sooo damn psyched! Are you kidding me? It’s like a dream job. Happy to take that meeting.

http://blog.ugo.com/images/uploads/iron-man_thumb.jpg UGO: So where are you with the script at this point?
JT: We’ve kind of got a first draft around. You know what I mean? I just got back from London where I was working with Robert and Kevin Feige. He was out there. We were talking with Robert, who’s out there doing Sherlock Holmes, he was giving his input and his notes. We’re sort of there. It’s just sort of chugging along. The crews, I think, are now starting to see what they need to make, and the places that we might be going and all the rest within the story. That’s sort of one of the more exciting times.
UGO: So you weren’t involved in the whole Don Cheadle (http://atpictures.com/don/)/Terrence Howard (http://atpictures.com/terrencehoward/)...or were and you want to tell me something…
JT: No, I wasn’t. I genuinely wasn’t. (laughs)
UGO: There have been reports that the role of War Machine was scaled back and then beefed up.
JT: No, that’s all nonsense. Whatever their reason is, I’ll leave that up to Marvel. We’re writing the thing, virtually the same for Rhodey that we would for any actor. We’re really taking what’s going to be the most interesting story for the fans, and what are they going to enjoy watching. And who ever’s in that part is going to have to play that part and make it work for Jon (Favreau) and the fans who are watching the movie.
UGO: So the size of the role wasn’t ever changed?
JT: No. God, no.
UGO: So did you have to, or did you try to accommodate Don Cheadle’s acting style?
JT: I think that will probably be something that comes up...I haven’t met Don, and I think I’m going to in a little bit and I think once I get a better sense of his voice and also hear what he has to say about what he likes about the character and just pick his brain a little bit, then we’ll obviously start to tailor it to him. Once he sort of gets more involved in the process then we’ll start tapering the length of his character...making it fit just right.
UGO: Everyone’s speculating about the villain. Are we talking Mandarin? Or Evil DJ?
JT: (laughs) I think it’s Evil DJ. He could be the villain in this movie. I don’t know. I mean, I do know but I’m not going to let that cat out. I’ll let Jon start discussing when he thinks it’s the right time.
UGO: Considering that everyone’s coming together for the Avengers movie, were you ever told that certain things had to be in the story or that things had to go a certain way?
JT: No. I mean, I think we’re all sort of conscious of the fact that all these people...it is the Marvel universe, but that’s really about as far as we’ve been made...they haven’t given us any instruction as far as we want you to do this or we want you to do that. And really it’s not really a they/us kind of environment, the way they work. It’s just a bunch of guys and girls sitting in a room, trying to come up with stuff and doing what’s right for the movie and what, at the end of the day, is going to be the most interesting film that can be made. Kind of a fun film. I think once we’re sort of locked on that we’ll be able to think about how we can thread things through. There’s a couple little things that we’ve been working on, but it’s not that we’ve been taking meetings with Avengers people. It’s not like we’re six screenwriters sitting in a room from each movie and thinking about how we’re gonna work on each other’s things.
UGO: Have you written Stan Lee’s cameo yet?
JT: No, I don’t think so. (laughs) I don’t know, I don’t know. Jon will anoint him with that cameo, I’m sure.
UGO: Gwyneth Paltrow (http://actressarchives.com/gwyneth/) is still listed as “rumored”. Is she confirmed?
JT: I don’t know. I don’t know if she’s confirmed or not...I’m planning like she is there but I have no idea.
UGO: Finally, what voice do you think you bring to the script, to make it different from the last one?
JT: I’m not really trying to bring a different voice. I’m trying to mimic and sing in the same key as the script that was there before. If anything, I think I bring a knowledge of the way Robert’s mind works. I’ve worked with him once before. Hopefully I’ve proven I have some modicum of creative relationship with Jon and Marvel. So I really think my job is to work with them and not try and strike any new chords. Of course we want to make the story different and interesting. We want the action to be really good. But I think my job is really just to...serve the ultimate guy, which is Iron Man.
