Hmm... given that it's illegal to mess with them, and can adversely affect your insurance (I know a guy in hawaii that got blacklisted because of this and a few other things)... you're probably not going to find anyone who can help you... or if there is someone, I doubt they'd want to speak up about it in any detail.

Just take it to Nissan and have a Trained indiviual do it. Come on wouldnt you rather spend 300 bucks rather than have it not work when you really need it to.

uhh i dont think nissan would take on the job of replacing a popped air bag with a used one. i work at nissan as a tech.
its not hard at all to change out an air bag and its not illegal i dont see why it owuld be your replacing a defective one unless omsone can clarify. just disconnect your battery completely to be on the safe side and let it sit for a half hour. btw i take it your cars a s14 correct. i never did it on a s14 but i believe there is a panel on the steering wheel for the connector and maybe two 10mm bolts in the back holding it in. this is off the top of my head

remove the two plastic panels on the sides of the wheel. there should be 1 or 2 torx head bolts on each side. unplug and put new one in. and the last i heard it wasn't illegal to change your airbags.

thanks kitahara, camppain, n hotdogg for the info/help.
but what are tamper proof torx bits? im guessing theyre some kind of bits/screw type things that arent reusable.....?
and what do i do about the airbag light? should it turn off once i put in the new one and plug in the battery again?
thanks again guys
