hey guys. so i was driving up the 15 north in san diego near fry's electronics when i noticed the sweet smell of smoke some out of my car. i pull over, and what do you know... my oem radiator cracked. its busted. luckily my friends helped me out and we got the car back to my house. As of now, im interested in buying a koyo radiator for my 1993 ka s13. Although im unaware of how reliable they are? I was wondering if they're worth buying, or if theres a cheaper reliable alternative? I already searched the forums, and it seems that if i do go with koyo, i'd have to trim the fan shroud. Is that correct? Im just a poor college student looking to have my car back running so i can get to work and school and back. any suggestions or useful knowledge?

I have seen people get cheaper ones off of summit. But if you want your car running as fast as possible, Go koyo it'll fit right in. Anything else you will have to mount yourself. Plus the koyos are usually a pretty good deal if you shop around. Good Luck

if you aren't looking for any added performance out of it, I'd say go with another stock one, it lasted 13 years right? (cheaper, easy install) (used is also an option where you may score one for like 20 bucks)

But if you do go with a koyo I think you will be fine as long as reliability, Koyo is a reputable manufacturer. I have had one for over a year and it still looks brand new. Plus you can get one for 290 shipped right now, that is pretty good.

they are not worth it, in my honest opinion.

But also keep in mind, bigger isnt always better, you'll have circulation issues... jsut like a huge 12x30 ebay intercooler on a mild setup..

summit racing sells aluminum radiators for liek 100 bucks on the discount rack, now, i live in ohio, and there is a summit here, there are only 2 summits in the world, one in ohio for the hillbilldills and one in LV for your average gambler/race warrior...

rules of thumb

for under 500 hp, keep it under 3 inches in width of the core...

for example... my car is projected to make 350 to the wheels, and my radiator (griffin) is 19x27x2.5... and it willl do just fine, even v-mounted

i will stop by summit and check the D-rack in the next two days if you'd like me to

I bought my new Koyo radiator for 250 off of Ebay, brand new never used. I know they sell them for the SR20DET setup, and might for the KA too. I think after shipping, I paid 263 because it was a buy it now OBO. Good luck! Also, if you dont find one soon I am swapping out my engine in about a week and Ill have an extra motor, tranny and all the radiator etc.

thanks for the info guys! byhi, i heard about griffin radiators as well as fluidynes. is the griffin about the same price as the koyo or higher? because i read that its a superior one compared to a koyo. And if you can check the dscount rack a summit for a radiator, it'd be helping me a lot! and is there a website for summit? gilboyto: that'd be a good idea to keep me posted on your progress of swapping. how much would you be willing to sell the radiator items, shipped to 92126? thanks again guys!

No problem. I would be willing to sell them for dirt cheap just because I wouldnt need them anymore.
I didnt put dimensions in for the package, but I but weight and your city, and it says UPS ground would be around 15 bucks to ship.

yeah if you dont have any money and just want your car running just head over to your local junkyard. If you have money you want to spend there is a sale going on now. Its on the home page of zilvia and its $289.99 shipped like broken240sx said.

I had a griffin. I never got to install it before I sold the car but it looked really good.

Got this e-mail from Benji ([email protected] or 864- 845-1061) who works for Griffin. Really good guy. I delt with him when I purchased it. If you decide to get one, tell him James sent you.

"THE RADIATOR IS TIG WELDED ALSO WHERE THE TUBES GO INTO THE HEADER THEY ARE VACCUM BRAZED AND THE EPOXY IS APPLIED ON THE OUTSIDE FOR STRENGTH AND DURABILITY. ITS A SINGLE PASS DOWNFLOW.THE OVERALL DIMENSIONS ARE 19.38 TALL 26.38 WIDE. LET ME KNOW IF THERES ANY OTHER INFO YOU NEED."

where'd your koyo crack?
most koyos i know the drain plug breaks
just replace it with a bolt

otherwise if it cracked u can often get a good radiator shop to weld it up, my friend did that with his
