I was going through my boxes of parts and came across this. I remember taking it off my sr redtop beforing installing it, but i dont remember why, or what it is, or does. If someone recognizes this part can you let me know. I thought someone told me it was for emissions? and since it wont pass smog anyways i took it off.

It looks like the part that the black box is mounted to on the KA, it might be something similar, especially if it has to do with emissions.

EGR for sr20det. Sits on the side of the head next to the OEM catch can, and connects to the AIV by a metal hose.
edit: here's a picture

That thing looks a hell of alot like the PCV setup attached to the driver's strut tower on the KADE, minus the resonator of course.

Definitely emissions related though.

That IS the AIV valve.

If you look at where all the hoses connects to from that thing, you'll see that it draws fresh air directly from the airbox, and from there it shoots it directly into the O2 housing, where we all have a plug there now.

shouldnt cause any problems to run without it. just remember to plug up the hole on your turbo extension.

You ditch that thing.

You need to plug up the hole in your turbo elbow as well.

just cut it off and leave 1/2" of the metal piping on, then just fold it over and hammer it shut. it should be good enough to not cause a problem. Or just do the nickle coin and jbweld thing (there's a thread somewhere). or get it welded.

Or use a nickel to block off the hole, then tighten the fitting back onto the nickel, and cut off the tube. It looks like ass but it works :)

thanks for all the info. I took my stock turbo elbow off and put a megan racing one on when I swapped engines. I knew I took it off for a reason, but its been a while so i couldnt picture where I pulled it off or why.

The Air Idle Vlave? Like the AAC?

That sits on the intake plenum.

AIV stands for Air Induction Valve
