hey fellas. ok, i did the auto-to-manual swap on my 89 S13 about a week ago. everything is fine, except for the INTENSE heat coming from my center console(which is right above the tranny). its not my engine because my temp gauge reads normal, & i checked the engine myself & its fine. plus this never happened when i had my auto tranny. my mechanic told me im missing some type of tranny heat shield, but whenever i talk to junkyards, they tell me there's no such thing, & the only "heat shield" is the header heat shield(which i have). also, my tranny is exposed from the bottom. my friends tell me that it should be covered by some type of housing. but when i checked the FSM, i didnt see any type of housing on the tranny. so basically i have 2 questions: (1) should my tranny be covered from the bottom, & if so what is this part called? & (2) why does my center console get so damn hot!!? honest to God i had to stop driving last night because it was an oven in my car & i couldnt stop sweating. it was horrible. someone with 240 knowledge please help!!!!

The 'housing; is the bell housing, which you have to have, it connects to the block and the tranny rested in the bell housing. If your driving, you have the bell housing installed
I have no idea about a heat shield though

It's strange, I have the same problem with my 240. Put your hand below the stereo and you can feel some pretty intense heat coming through. Even the floor gets hot. I don't understand it.

You had to stop driving it!? There IS a shield that mounts between the tranny and the chassis, but you should already have that. Are you sure the fluid is at the proper level? Do you have any leaks? It's normal for it to get warm, but not so hot that you can't drive. Normally, in mine the only hot part is right near the shifter. Get under there and look for a heat shield.

nope no leaks. i talked to my mechanic again today & he told me more specifically what i need. he says that there is a metal piece that goes in between the tranny & the center console/shifter. i dont have that right now. so when i remove my center console(plastic piece that surrounds the stereo, etc.), theres nothing there in between the tranny. i guess thats the "heat shield" im looking for. anyone know the exact name of this piece? and natty, yes i am driving, but no i do not have a bell housing. my tranny is exposed from the bottom. i need a cover to house it, which im assuming is the "bell housing?" get back to me soon guys! im worried about driving my car now!
