View Full Version : Since everyone else in having car problems

It seems like everyone here has crashed, be ran into, or is just having problems.
I just got back from the tranny expert. My tranny is slowly dying, my 3rd gear synchro is toast and my bearings are screwed up. Now I have to wait for that to die so I can find a used junkyard tranny $$$
My brake pads are all gone, and my rotors are warped.
I have the infamous 55mph wheel "shimmy" (anyone have that TSB?)
And my wheel bearings are squeaking. Not even getting into my trashy interior. A tuneup is coming up soon as well.
Anyone else having 'problems?'
Sorry for the rant,
Jeff

I just got my car back from getting a new clutch and flywheel. The trasnmission DOESN'T feel right at all. I dont know if this is normal, but since I've got it back, its very difficult to get in gear, and no longer goes in first (I used to be able to put it in 1st at 15 mph or so). Its a lot stiffer, and the clutch engages wayyy earlier. That sorta bothers me too. Oh and Im still running really rich, and have a hole in my gas tank
The gas tank isnt as bad as it sounds. The original owner of the car, when installing the system drilled about 4 or 5 grounding points in the trunk. Since the amp is in sort of a custom box where the spare tire should be, he ran the ground for that out the back of the box and into the same space. He drilled right through the trunk and into the gas tank. So I have a hole in my gas tank the size of a screw. I guess I just need to get in there with some JB Weld or something.
Other than that, I guess thats all I have thats seriously wrong, some shakes and rattles in some spots, thats about it. Just hoping it will all magicly go away

there is actually a gas tank epoxy for that purpose. ask about it at your LAPS (Local Auto Parts Store).

JB Weld fixes everything
See my sig about rattles. I am hoping mine will magically heal too.
About that clutch. I had the exact same problem when I had my slave cylinder replaced. What happened is the clutch pedal was not adjusted. There should be about an inch of play on the pedal before it moves the clutch. Get this fixed ASAP! It caused 2 clutches to burn out before the mechanics could figure out it was a simple adjustment. The pedal can be adjusted by a nut, but have a tranny shop do it!
At least have it looked at. I ignored it and lost over $800 in parts and labor.

Hahah my car must love me a lot
Hmm better get that adjusted, dont wanna spend another 400 bucks... This is starting to piss me off that I have to keep paying for repairs and cant put any money away for stuff I want for the car. My new idea includes magicly using my mind to wear out the stuff I want to upgrade, so in tern its just like replacing it

Do what I am starting to do. When you want to upgrade, but a stock part goes bad, upgrade the stock part
For example, on my brakes, I am upgrading the pads and rotors. For my tranny, I am getting a PDM short shifter.
For only a few bucks more....

My 240 has her share of little querks but I love her......she's my bby. So do what I did, I bought an old 84 S10 pickup that I drive on a regular basis (to and from work) and I leave my bby in the garage, so when she hickups I can take my time to tear her down and look for the best deal on the best parts. And it keeps her out of the harsh summer sun (she doesn't like getting hot)

Here is my somewhat rough 240 travel story:
I just bought my '91 240 hatch in colorado and one of my kumho ecsta supras blewout the day I picked it up. I got within 100 miles of portland when about 15% of the sidewall blewout in one of the all-seasons I was using for the long travel. (it was 110º in pendelton) Than I didnt have a wrench that fit the lugs on my konig rims that I had to use as a spare. 2 hours later I was back on the road, and when I was driving through portland to get to the suberb where I live, my K&N filter popped off. I thought this was the ECU having difficulty with the 5000 ft. chaneg in ltitude, so my car was dying at every light and stop sign. I fixed this once I got home. Upon looking at my old kumho's, I have a bad camber problem. So I take it to Les Scwab... They adjust my rear camber from -2.2º to -2.16º. I'm not kidding. And they charge me $45 for it! And I told them before my appointment to tell me if they couldn't get it perfect, and I would install camber correction bushings and take it back. And while I was in colorado I had to install a rev/speed meter, because my speedo is ALL F*ED UP! Than I find out the driver window dosn't work. I spend the better part of a day taking the entire door apart, unill I find out it was just that little black amplifier box on the outside of the door shell. Good thing Is that I got the part for only $4.
I finally have only a few existing problems with my car... My power seatbelts dont work, my power mirrors don't work, and my camber is all messed up. I have no clue on the mirrors, or the seabelts. (I checked the fuses) But as for the camber I am going to go with whiteline camber correction bushings for $120 right now. (two sets) I would slot out my controll arms but this seems kinda "iffy" to me. Plus I would be trying to do so with either an asetelyne torch or a dremel tool. I just don't know if I am up to it. Any opinions or other camber options would be cool. Go to my site to see pics of my new beauty. (unless you already have)
Joey
ps- I have tried a few times to get pics onto my signture, each time unsuccesfull. I feel like a moron asking how I do this, but I wanna know.
