im still having a problem with my power steering.
it feels like there is no power to it.
i checked for leaks and nothing, ive put atf in it and nothing. my belt is tight.
could it be my rack or pump. if so how do you know if its not working properly.
or could it be somthing else?
its a hicas front power steering rack. i took out hicas on my car, meaning everything, except the front rack (i didnt think it was nessisary to swap it out cause it looked the same as the regular power steering racks.)
also there is this electrical plug by the high pressure line, and i dont have it pluged up, i cant find it on my harness, is that really important or not?
please help me.

thanks, brent

It might be the U-joint. Are you saying the wheel is hard to turn? That was one of my symptoms, and replacing the U-joint cured it. The old joint was very stiff (once out of the car it was obvious) whereas the new one moved smoothly.

is the flow control valve important? i dont have it in the pump.. if so how do i put the parts back in it right, i have the valve and spring. would that be my problem on why my car is so dam stiff on turning. or is it the u joint like he said. what does a bad u joint look like?

I got the joint from www.courtesyparts.com retail was $85 I think.

No idea on the valve.

As far as what it looks like - they all look rusty after being on the car for 15 years whether they work or not. Take it off; it's supposed to bend easily in two directions. If it takes lots of muscle to move it, replace it. You can't lube it BTW, it must be replaced.

Im still having problem with the steering being stiff as F**k.
and no i havent replaced the lower steering u-joint.

After redropping my motor back into my car, I flushed the fluids out of the power steering system and put atf fluid back in and bled the system according to fsm.

The first couple of drives i took around the nieghborhood to test it out, it worked perfectly, it felt like my two front tires were on ice, thats how smooth the steering was. But then after doing a few more tweaks to the motor to get it running properly and retest driving my car again, the steering went back to its old shiety stiff feel agian. I flushed the fluids again and rebled the system again after that and same crap feeling. I dont understand wth!!!

Now after researching for hours and hours, Im thinking that my rack really did go bad all of a sudden for some odd reason. Or maybe the bushings are done with. Or its my pump. Thats alot of crap to replace just for steering, is why im asking again, cause i want to make dam sure which it might be, before spending money on this. I know i have to spend money either way, but i want to spend the least, im really tight on money.

Im sick of driving my car now, Plz help me

thanks, brent
