I have done research basically the 1.5 locks up on acceleration only and 2 way is acceleration and decleration .... but people ... say the 2 way is a death trap in the rain or inclement weather ... now i live in the ga ... so i dont have to worry about snow and ice barely ... however this is my daily .... i want to be able to have fun at the track.... but still be able to drive with out any issue's in the rain .... can aynone put up their thoughts or oppinions .

doesn't the 1.5 go full lock under acceleration and 1/2 lock deceleration?

correct. 1.5 has less lock on decel and more on accel. 2 way suky for street unless your like hardcore racer ;) then slicks are awesome on the street

I have a welded diff in my car and have driven plenty in FL torentual downpours and came out unscathed.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

But I would just say that 2-way is fine, unless you're the kind of guy who goes through intersections and make turns there at like 50 mph without even braking in the rain. If that's the case it doesn't matter if you have open diff you're still going to die.

YEA .... see i bought a healical diff a while back and well never installed it because i got a bad feeling after i bought it and well later found out it can act like an open diff so i am just gonna sell my healical for a 2 way

Do you even know how the Helical/Torsen diffs work?

They send the power to the wheel with the most traction, so in a corner, it'll send the power to the outside wheel, instead of lighting up the inside wheel.

Problem is, both wheels that are connected to the diff have to be touching the ground and providing friction to the diff, or else it won't work.

So, of you lift a wheel in a corner, the diff will freak out and not work. But if you know how to set up your car with the helical/torsen, you should be golden.

nothing wrong with 2way in rain/snow/hurricane/sleet/hale

you're going to be daily driving it, then i'm assuming you're not going to be flying down public streets in inclement weather anyways...

is a helical ok for drifting?

For inexperienced / new driver's, a 1.5 way is a little more forgiving if you make a mistake.

That is correct.

If you drive the speed limit in harsh conditions, you will be fine.

When coming to a stop, you can either rev match to a stop or just clutch in.

Because if you just drop down gears it will make your rear unstable. A little more with a 2way than a 1.5. But only nub do that...

What reason do you feel you need a diff? That's the biggest deciding factor.

?

or you can just slow down and come to a stop like normal: apply brakes, and clutch in when revs drop low enough. Not everyone downshifts into every lower gear when slowing down to a stop. And even then, unless your just dropping the clutch and shift locking when you down shift, the rear wont become unstable without a disruption in drive line.

//edit: You should probably get a ride with someone in a 2 way locking diff before you decide to invest in one. Its not that fun for normal driving. You should probably also look into a daily driver if your making your 240 into a drift car.

That's why I said, "JUST" as in only. Of course it wouldn't happen unless you were attmepting to in dry. I was giving information if he was driving in the rain.

dont drive like a dipshit, and make sure you have good tires in the rainy season especially, and ull be fine with a 1.5 or 2.

i have a Tomei 2 way in my S14 and besides anoying skipping of inside tire when making u turns its great. in rain/gravel inside tire tends to skip even when makaking a sharp turn from a stop. doesnt bother me tho. traction is priceless.

And in the case that you're spinning one wheel and not moving, like with one wheel on ice, you can apply the brakes slightly and it will send power to both wheels.

simply put it was much more recomended for auto cross and drifting vs a 1.5 so thats good enough for me ....

"death trap in the rain" and "clunking drives you crazy" people need to stop talking this nonsense online. Funny this thread pops up today, as just yesterday I was driving along thinking about this topic. I've had my Kaaz 2 way in my DD for 1.5+ years, and I have came to the conclusion that anyone who would complain about those things, as reasons NOT to get a 2 way, are just fucking stupid. The 2way is so godamn enjoyable you would have to be either a poser or a complete tool to complain about wet handling or the clunking on low speed turns. I wanna ask these kind of guys, what about your turbo in the rain, doesn't that make your car a deathtrap? Or what about your loud ass exhaust, doesn't that drive you crazy?

I love driving with my Kaaz in all weather, including wet, the car feels fantastic under power and on lift-off. And the clunking is pretty damn cool IMO. You'll feel the car want to plow a little more when it's wet or slick pavement; you've either got too much angle, and/or too much speed, and/or jankie tires up front if this happens...

I say, weld your open diff and see how you like it before you dump $700+ into a diff. Flame away, but my s13+Kaaz compared to my friends s13+welded feel nearly identical.

+1

word. welded is a poormans 2way.

they are nearly identical except on a 2 way... you glide your car in neutral there is no lock... at least that what i've noticed on my nismo 2 way...

man, whatever, I drove my car in the rain on bald tires with a 2-way and its scary. But 2-way in the rain on good tires is normal. Just remember to change the fluids to keep it maintained.

I have a welded diff.

I have driven in the rain with 3inches of cords showing on both rear tires.

I am not dead.

People that say you'll die with insert whatever diff they've never had here need to break their fingers with a hammer.

on a side note, the corded tires in the rain was funny, if I drove normal it wasn't a problem, but if i shocked them just a little they'd spin till i got the rpm under 2k or clutched in. haha. people around me were scurred.

2way is like having sex with a hot girl
welded is like a prostitue
1.5 way is like doing a guy
Vlsd is a handjob form a bum.

2 way is way more fun though haha

a little more skill is required with finding neutral steering spots for consistant counter steering.
