This isnt your usualy "hey, what tire fits a 19x6.5" wheel?"

I have 17x9 +27 with 225/45 all around and I need new tires. I am definatly going with Kumho MX's seeing as they are very sticky and cheap as hell, and outperform most tires twice their price.
Well I have two options:
235/45/17 or 245/40/17 (or 245/45 but I think the aspec is too high)

Origionally, I was going to go with the 235's but for just $15 or so more, I can get 10mm more tire. The 245's will probably need spacers up front (not sure how much) but the 235's will most likely not. The main question is do you think thats too much tire to run all around? Will they ever heat up or is it just way overkill?

I've only had 195's and 225's on my s13 and the 225's seem to grip well but seem to heat up or break away while comming out of corners.

I am afraid the 245's will cause slugish turn in and make the steering feel like shit and very heavy, not to mention put tons of strain on my 15 year old steering rack.

What do you guys prefer for daily/grip driving, 235 all around or 245 all around?

245/40 is shorter and wider than 235/45.

anything xxx/45/17 generally sucks

sluggish turn in? camber + caster adjustments

ka24deessthreeone runs 245 on all four corners, PM him if you want input

by the way +27 won't clear coilovers

i have 235/40 and 245/40 on 17x9 +15 all around. I should have done 245/40 all around

camber + caster cant take away from the fact that I am moving that much rubber across the pavment....

Why ask if you've already made up your mind? Fuck.

Why not go run a 215 and enjoy understeer on the track!

kingsol runs 235/40/17. Ask him if he has sluggish turn in.

your front tires are responsible for braking and turning. a little more rubber in front never hurt anyone

Again, 245/40 is SHORTER AND WIDER than 235/45

What the hell? I was asking if they heat up and how they perform. You said alighnment can reduce turn in which it can to an extent, but more tire never means better handling.

245/40 is only .5" shorter. Wider doesnt mean better.

Again, since your obviously not getting the point,
Will a 245 be able to heat up and be the proper width or is a 235 enough? No point in adding more weight when other aspect will be hurt.

What the fuck is a "proper" width then? Since you're asking which is better, why not set some better FUCKING parameters? how much power are you running? What other suspension mods?

The Kumho MX doesn't perform well new and cold. Heated up and worn a bit more, they grip much much better.

The RT-615 is tire on par price and performance wise with reverse characteristics. Works great cold and new, less effective heated up.

If you were going to run a 235, run the RT's, because they come in 235/40.

First you say .5 inch shorter doesn't matter, but then you care about the minute weight difference between a 235 and a 245? Oh hey, check this little factoid out from tirerack.com

235/45/17 Kumho MX = 24 lbs
245/40/17 Kumho MX = 23 lbs

Yes, you're SO worried about the adding weight you didn't even bother to LOOK UP the specs. Fuckin hypocrite.

I've given you the names of two members that run 235 and 245, respectively. Bug them about how the sizes work, knowing that a 235/45 is less responsive (taller + weaker sidewall tire of the MX).

ka24desonethree = 245/40/17 Advan Neova (i think...or RE-01s)
kingsol = 235/40/17 Falken Azenis RT-615

If it's sluggish, add camber and caster.
If it's STILL sluggish, get a HICAS steering rack.
If it's STILL sluggish, hit the gym and build up your forearms.

ohhh man ohh man, i just got e-pw3d. God, your such a cool dude!!!

But regardless, sluggish refers to the transfer of weight. When you turn the wheel, unless your on a rail, your tire flexes and moves on the pavement. It takes longer for a 245 to "bit" and effectivly load up the tire but the larger sidewall isnt that much of a difference seeing as a 235 will be stretched, giving me faster load up speed. Sluggish isnt refering to a heavy steering wheel seeing as caster can take away steering weight.

Experience wise, I ran kumho's on my other car and I know others with rt-615 and the rt's suck in the rain and i am in alot of rain. the kumho last longer, but hey, this is off topic.

My setup is:
Buddy Club Coilovers
Adjustable tenstion rods
SPL outer tie rods
Z32 inner
ST sway bars
Footwerks RUCAS
Assorted chassis braces and tower bars
S15 helical lsd
SPL Parts solid aluminum subframe bushings

with Z32 front and rear calipers
Brembo slotted rotors
5-lug conversion
MB Motorsports 17x9's

current alignment angles are 0 toe (f and r) -2* front camber -1.8 rear camber and 7* caster. I will prbably increase camber to -2.2 front and slight toe in in the rear.

Power is est. 230whp with SR with all the usual bolt ons.

RT's don't suck in the rain unless you're driving recklessly. I've had both the 215 and 615 and in normal wet driving, they aren't dangerous at all if you take any care at all.

in any event, getting a spare set of all-season shit tires can't be that hard, either

since the "sluggishness" seems to be something purely subjective, what's the point of asking about this if all you're going to do is bitch about it?

Buy the tires. Use them. If you don't like them, get the other size the next time.

What isnt subjective these days? and yes, I have had rt's plane on me....not a fun experience. We, in SC, dont get bitch rain like CA (trust me, i've grew up in norcal and have lived in socal for some years before moving to SC).

I want to simply have a discussion where I can see the pros and cons of running a 245 and a 235. This isnt meant to be an attact. Hell you have "given up on me" in 10min because I am a "hypocritical bitch that seems to have my mind set" Seriously man, do you have issues with simply saying "hey, a 235 is good for blah blah while a 245 is good for blah blah but you have to watch out, blah blah" Thats all I am looking for....I dont need to for you to be an ass, I just am asking the people WHO HAVE HAD EXPERIENCE WITH BOTH A 235 AND 245 SETUP TO SIMPLY SHARE WHAT THEY LIKED AND DIDNT LIKE ABOUT EACH COMBO.....

but hey, i cant control you so lets let the "drama" end. If you think I am a dipshit little prick then dont click on the thread but if you would by change happen to give me some insightful input that will probably help others, then I would be very happy to hear what you have to say...that the whole reason I asked!!

It seems you already know the effects of a smaller versus a larger size, at least theoretically. What the fuck do you want someone to say, "a 245 is a magic size that will be perfect for you?"

I also gave you the names of two other members who you can PM.

If you want help, don't be such a pussy.
