I have spent the last hour reading old posts about engine rebuilds and I have a questions to you all. Since 8.5:1 is stock what does 9.1:1 or 11:1 compression do to a SR, along with the piston size of 86.5mm or 87mm. I understand that a head gasket can raise or loser the compression ratio also by the thickness and then match the bore size.

Then what kind of piston do you all run.

No flameing honest question before I spend some money, so be nice.

Thanks

o it raises compression.
metal ones.

The higher the compression, the more problems you will run into at a higher boost,

just for a general referance, the lower the compression, the higher boost you can run at a safer degree...

So is the stock compression the best with a thin head gasket?

you can run a slightly higher compression for boosting, like 9:1 isn't too bad, in fact, i believe enthalpy rebuilds using 9:1 pistons, higher compression = faster response when not boosting

i'm sure there're good explanations out there, but i suck at explaining, search FA, they got alot of technical geeks who are good at explaining, lol

as for me, i run stock because i'm broke, and it'll be fine for what i'm running

Look at all the KA-T guys running stock pistons - they're at 9.5:1 and have a little more TQ on the low end. I'm not sure of the exact effects on an SR, but L.B. pretty much said it.

There was a debate somewhere on High comp, Low boost vs. Low comp, High boost...

and as mentioned above,
higher compression means you better have a spot on tune or else kaboom at hihger boost

Ill do a search for that
