So what exactly goes into a Sil80? I know it is a fastback S13(180), with the front clip from an S13 Silvia...

I was under the impression it had a SR20DET, but I saw a website that said it had an RB26. Now I'm confused... Also, what sort of tranny/differential, and who makes SilEighty suspension?

Sil-Eighty just refers to the JDM hatchback (180SX) with the front end off of the JDM coupe (Silvia), er go Sil-Eighty. supposedly, this was a cheaper way to replace the 180SX front ends, which cost more than a Silvia front end.

the JDM 180SX does have an SR20, but depending on the trim, it either has the SR20DE (N/A) or the SR20DET (Turbo). same as the JDM Silvia. originally, it came with the CA18DE (N/A), or CA18DET, hence the 180SX. stateside, we get the KA24DE, hence the 240SX.

they are both the same chassis (S13), so parts should be the same.

So it uses the drivetrain from the 180?

I was reading a bit about the Sil80, and read it had suspension set up for drifting. I'm talking about the factory Sil80, not just a conversion...

From my experience, the 180 drifts just fine, so I was also wondering what went into the suspension tuning.

i prty shur that the JDM Silvia and the JDM 180SX have the same parts, except some body parts.

as far as the factory Special Edition Sil-80, i've been told that it had a "sportier" suspension. probably to attract the younger ppl into drifting right away. j/k.

i don't kno much about suspension tuning, but what i do kno is that the more u make the suspension "race-ready", the less it'll be "road-ready". the factory suspension was made to be forgiving, so that it can be sold to the ordinary joe schmoe. the more u improve it, the less forgiving it'll be. that could be might not matter depending on whur u live, but it LA, it really makes a difference.

i guess you're referring to the factory silvia, which was just a limited run 180sx with ps13 front installed form the factory, a stock suspension setup that was very "slide-happy", and more aggressive cams among a ocuple otehr small engine upgrades. they only made 400

as far as sil80's which are made for whatever reason, its just some sort of fastback (180sx) with whatever s13 front they install on it. usually will have ca18 or sr20 of some type cause thats what came in them, unless they swapped the engine to something else
