hey i am looking to invest into some coilovers but have no clue what kind to look for and how much i should or need to spend on them. i dont need top of the line but dont want real cheap cheezy ones either. this is going on my car that is a daily driver and not just a track car if that makes a difference on what coilovers to get. please tell me what you think i should get and the around how much they are.
thanks

I think a very rough estimate for a good coilover is $1400.

+1 on that. For somethign streetable, Flexes would be good. Not too stiff and have a crap load of hiegh adjustment. I was abel to lower my car 5 inches from stock with them.

what about the tein basic damper?? or are those just a pos? trying to spend as little as possible for now and upgrade in a year or so...

why waste money now then?
do it right one time instead of half assing it once and then doing it right the next time.
My opinion anyways...

do the ksports wear out faster than most? would it be a bad idea to buy them used?

used - you have absolutly NO idea what kind of conditions they have been put through.
I'd rather get new.
I wouldn't say K sports necessarily wear out faster. I have no idea though...

don't get used. ever. i bought my coils used, and it's a waste of life.
mine are a jdm set of jic-magic flt-a2. badass... when new.
me and the seller actually went through quite a few headaches getting this deal right,
and i'm still not happy w/ them. lately i've been thinking hard about getting stance.
bang for buck, my vote is positively DON'T GET USED.

We just use used set for 500 to 600 bones. I have been on the same set for a couple of years, and different cars. Tein HA, that should tell you the age of these. On the old GTR had the same set, good to go. Bought them used too. Splurged on the 100 chaser and bought new, always Tein. Had good luck with them. Plus you can get them rebuilt here.

ive heard megans are decent
i was wondering how low you can go with megans, stance, and ksport coilovers without damaging them
ladiesman8527
01-02-2007, 09:16 PM
stance's go low low in my opinion. im still rollin on stock s13 se wheels, so its not hard to be low tho. right now, i have nearly no gap between my tire and the fender, and i still gotta lot of threads left, even with the helper springs in the rear (i got the GR+ Pro's).

Definately save up and get the coilovers you want in the first place, it makes no sense buying a set selling them a year later and buying another set.
But if you must I think the cheapest new coilovers are going to be megan or Ksport everything else is going to be over 1k.
DriftSpecial180
01-02-2007, 10:34 PM
don't go k-sport, get megan's instead (more positive feedback) ~$800
if you want to step up a little, which i suggest, go KTS ~$1000
For just a little more though, you can get some ill shit
Stance ~$1300
Silk Road ~1400
I have personal expierence with KTS and Silk Road, and Silk Road makes some dope coilovers. Definately want to get some Stance's soon

save up and get good shit...my 1st S13 was a KA-T i had those cheap NEX e-bay coil overs i thought they handled amazing the car was beyond stiff. then my second S13 was a NA-SR i had the cusco zero-1s or w.e i don't remember and it was like night and day so much better deff worth the extra $$. Even with the vast power difference, i never tested it but i can swear by it that my NA-SR with the cusco's had faster exit speeds and would ultimately go around a track faster than the KA-T on the NEX coil overs. and the SR was at least 2 inches lower

this has been asked time and time again.
spending about 1400 bucks is very reasonable for fully adjustable dampers. I wouldnt go cheaper because I question how good an 800 dollar damper system would be. but thats just me. THeyre probably great if you arent big on track events. If your planning on going to the track often, you might want to invest in some better coilovers. (Silkroad, Stance, etc)
My reccomendation would be silk road. Good entry-level coilover. they were 1400 shipped. THeres quite a few places that sell them. google silkroad coilovers and you can go to their mainsite, and find the distributors from there.
Theres a lot of members ont his board that use their silk roads for track, have never had problems, and absolutely love them. inverted dampers are nice since theyre made to take a lot of abuse.
You need to look at the specs on each damper before you buy. check springrates, etc. dont just buy based on our opinions.
I wouldnt buy used just becuase you dont know the abuse theyve been put through. could blow any moment.

Id say the KTS or stance coilovers are the best bang for the buck.... I heard the two are very close in how they perform so I just went with the cheaper KTS coilovers. if your short on dough though I hear the megans arent bad.
Def dont get used coilovers.

LMAO
Tanabe 7s are very nice. I've driven on them in my buddy's car. Her 7s are on a whole different level than my stances.
Greddy coilovers have progressive springs, thats why the ride isnt all that jarring.
BTW, i never did get why you would want to electronically adjust your dampers while you were driving on a street car. My fingers work just fine, and they dont cost a thing.

lol, you think that'll stop it from being asked? lol. People just dont look before posting :P...
It's been established that k-sports are no good. For like $100 more you can get a set of megans which are still a low quality coilover, but are one hell of alot better. I have heard more people satisfied with their megans then I have heard satisfied with their ksports. I would HIGHLY recomend stepping it up to a better quality coilover. Nothings worse then buying something you arent happy with, and spending even more money to do it right then you would have had to if you did it right hte first time. Buy a set of stance or silkroads atleast.
Everybody loves KTS coilovers.

well i have ksport coilovers and the reason people don't like them is because they were blowing out but that was due to a seal that has been long replaced with a better heavy duty seal. i got my set for 600 brand new and i only had to send one coilover back because of the seal after that i have had no problem with then as for megun coilovers i have heared from a friend that his friend works for them and he adviced me to go another route because there really sensitive to dumps on the road so for people who want then for daily driving there good for a while but good for track for the price. i was adivced to go another route because i wanted my coilovers for daily driving an megun tend to make nosie after a few month and soon after that they blow out. now for those who are thinking that am nuts my friend is a mechanical engineer and he had meguns for a while then got raid of them becauseof the noise reason. know for any one that whats ksports for 180sx or s13 for 600.00 in the los angeles area hit me up and for people that want then out of the los angeles area and are willing to pay for shipping hit me up and ill see if i can hook it up for cheap. ksports retail for 1,200 of the website www.ksportusa.com oh please add positive reputation for those that post useful information.

_Def on FA were running K-sport coilovers and he was passing M3s and stuff at the Road Atlanta track (or was it another track?). He said he was going down to 7/5 springs cause what he had before made the car too bouncy still.
Also, I think there's a guy in SCCA setting fastest times in his 240 with K-Sport coilovers.
It's all about setting up your suspension and knowing what you're doing when you're setting it up.

My friend that spent 6-months in England Said K-sports are extremely popular in Europe.
I plan on getting stance GR Pro+ coilovers. From reading on the drag forums, they are loved by dragracers, and on here I have heard lots of good stuff. Also the price isnt so bad either.
About a car with XXXXXXXX part on it setting records, it isnt always the parts, 95% of the time its the driver. A certain mod may make the car faster in staight line or a aut-x track. But In my opinion, the drive is the key.

Well if he is going to sell them for $600 he isn't a very smart businessman.
(FYI I am an authorized Ksport dealer up here in Canada so I know all about their pricing.)
Also I always find it funny how the 'elitists' always have to put their two cents in and call Megan and Ksport junk. Sure it may be junk in their eyes but in others it is a great deal for the product with the features offered. Ksport and Megan products are a great "bang for the buck" set up. Unfortunately 95% of the naysayers have absolutey no firsthand experience with them. They only base their opinions on where they are made, the price and what the 'cool' people say on message boards.
There is no sense comparing a $800 set of coilovers with a set of $1600 coilovers. And why everyone always does this I don't know. It is kind of like someone saying that they want to buy a Honda civic and everyone telling them, nah, just save up and buy a Lexus because they are better. The person is obviously looking at Civics for a reason whether it fits their budget or for other reasons.
Also alot of people don't realize that Ksport also has higher end products like the GT Pro and the Circuit Pro (Not released yet) which wouldmatch up better with the Silkroads, Cusco's and Zeals of the JDM 'coolness'.
Just my two cents. Take it for what it is worth.

it was phoenixr34 on fa set that NASA-TT track record at Phoenix Intl. Raceway, right after he installed the ksports ciruit pro 2way. also he was 4th on the super street TT rwd unlimited against faster cars, and then setting another TT record at firebird intl. raceway. previous coilover he had was tein ra and cusco pro before he had great success with ksports.
he also had great success with ksports gt pro on his other s14.
im sure he's a good driver but he also swears for kports helped him.
i also had ksports for 3 yrs and counting. i planned to get the GT pro if i can get it cheaper than stance. but i may go with gr+pro ;p

Bleh. Ksports and Megans are for poor people who want to say they have coilovers.
Best bang for buck depends how you look at it.
To me, spending more money one ONE good set of coilovers would be better than spending multiple amounts of smaller cash for sub-par coils.
Most people who suggest dirt cheap coilovers; new under 1k. Have either never been on real coilovers to have a benchmark or rode in someones car who had their suspension set up like crap.
So with that said if you still want to save money and have a compromise, I say go stance.

i honestly think it all depends on what ur car is for, and how much money u got...
Lets not try to fool ourselves. Megan racing track is THE best bang for the buck. My friend has super drift by TEIN. Ive drove his car, drifted his car, feels exactly the same. I have the admit, the super drift DID feel more comfortable driving on the los angeles freeway roads. But i dont give a fuck...as long as they fullfil their purpose, "DRIFT", im happy =)

That price is sweet! I'm ordering a set of S13 Ksports on either Tuesday or Wednesday, though I want them with 8/6 springs instead of the 7/5 they usually come with. The cheapest I've found them was for $695 shipped through the Intense Power special.
I just checked out jlbmotorsports.com, and they're listed for $1200 on their website. How long ago did you get them, or did they have a special?
