nitrous on a sohc?

ok first off i have a 1990 sohc 240sx fastback completely stock just tein springs and KYB suspension.

Shes to slow and i want to boost her up real quick without blowing the motor and i was thinking about putting a nitrous system in her for now and put the kit into a new motor later. i have 800bucks for a nitrous system and i wanted to no what brand would be good to go with.

Whats the difference between wet and dry systems?

where would place the switch? when should i press and what rpm do i use the nos?

could my stock engine take nitrous without any major mods?

she will be replaced by a twin cam ka24de soon when my shop finds me a motor

wet systems inject nitrous in with the fuel (more expensive, more risky)
dry systems inject nitrous in with the air (cheaper, less power less risk)

50-75 on a Ka should be fine. make sure you have less than 200,000miles on it.



you'll have an arming switch placed somewhere in the cabin and the actual injection then occurs at wide open throttle.

i work at an engine shop, and i just rebuilt a ka24de that i picked up when a buddy did his sr20 swap. when it came out it was a good running engine with only 70k miles. shoot me a pm if your interested, i just want to make it disappear and will take any reasonable offer, plus i can build it any way you want, IE forged components and the such

You should have no problem running nitrous.

Just make sure your ignition tuning is correct.

Before you do anything, check your compression.

sounds like a plan! hmm my engine has about 185k miles on it... will that do??
what about tuning? will i need to mess with the A/F ratio in any ways?

whats a good brand to go with?

how much am i looking to pay for a dry system?

planning on a dry system but how long do u think my engine with 182k miles on her will last with it installed and used 2-4 times a week mostlikely night time use

should i go with a 2 1/2 inch free flow exhaust with no cat?

dry systems are the basic of the basic systems..they work frelatively fine as long as you dont go anything over ~50 shot

for peice of mind i would go with a wet kit. a lot more reliable since you have the extra fuel to help avoid lean conditions.


with that said tuning is key. make sure you have plenty of fuel, a little rich is better than a little lean and retard your timing a couple degrees
