What is needed to do this? I'm not talking about starting it, just to be able to crank the motor to spin it. Thanks

A starter....
Or if for some reason you dont have one, or cant hook one up you can manually crank by turning the bolt on the crank pulley with 1/2" breaker bar and 27mm socket I think.
What are you trying to do?

Im just trying to start my newly swapped SR. But I checked the starter and its good. All my grounds are good. I want to crank the motor to prime it before I try starting it...I can't seem to freakin get it cranked. What is the likely hood of the motor freezing up?

hit the crank pulley with a breaker, it isn't likely that the motor is seized unless it was shot when it was pulled
you can hook up an underhood switch for the starter, craftsman and Im sure other companies make them too, for diagnostics. It is just a conection to the Plus terminal, to a momentary switch like a push button, then to the starter... It is real simple
was it automatic?

broken240sx sounds like your hotwiring a car :) lol
yea but try the breaker bar way if your just checking if its locked up

Yes, the car was automatic. my friends that swapped 15 SR's only did it with 5 speeds, so this is our first auto swap. Im so frustrated its not even funny.

when I do this does it matter which way I go? Also will this affect the timing at all?

um,hm.
i don't think it would mess with the timing. ive always done it when building a motor, then i set timing last. and doesn't matter which way you go, might as well go both just for assurance

You jumper the revolution sensor?
yeah you have to connect two wires, real easy... SEARCH for it you will find
they are under the fuse box on the passenger side under the hood

no stealing, that is not cool, just testing faulty starter circuitry:bigok: no timing issues either, fire the starter with the keys out to prime the oil pump, no flooding worries nothing
