Just out of curiosity to any of the members in Japan, are there any people there running an LS1 240 or LS1 Rx7?

I know they have the SR20 stock, but you know there are always people who want to be different, & the TQ on the V8's are insane.

Not a single one.
SR in R32's Seen quite a few.
WOuld be an expensive swap here....and rotory guys are well, rotary guys.
I think it would be a bad ass swap. I love the LS1.

No. Ellis Juan swap is on my list of things to do in the far future. It'd be neat to do out here, but motor would be hard as hell to come by.

Awesome! We can turn this into a barter system. I'll trade you an ls2 for an rb30

yeah and I'll import the LS1 parts to you in JDM land. Done. :keke:
Gosh I need to visit there again.
Hachioji was ehh. But the Rainbow Tower was all good. :keke:

No, Japan isn't fucking retarded, so they'd prolly just buy the whole C5 first and throw shitbox 240 in the dumpster.

Was the C5 even offered in RHD configuration? (just wondering) Isn't there a tariff or some fee tacked onto driving a LHD in Japan?

Anywho.....I think such a swap is very unlikely to happen in Japan.

there is a C5 that shows up at a local "meeting" place here, he has never run anyone though, he knows he would get his ass handed to him. The cars all want to run him, and the ones that do are amazing. RB27/28/30 S13's and shit. Not to mention the Verossa that is one of the fastest cars I have seen here, even with 4 fat Okinawans in it while racing.

id think the main thing to deal w/ would be fabrication little things like driveshafts that don't cost much to get custom in the states, are RIDICULOUSLY expensive here... not to mention labor if you dont do your own wrenching and so on....

and i just heard this last night...(dont quote me i need to do more research) but a buddy of mine w/ a 33type m w/ 26 swap (bored up mines tune etc) said he was told by a japanese friend that it would cost him 300,000Y to get the car legalized (meaing the motor and all work done to reflect on his title/registration)

now my dream is to put a 26 in the cefiro.... but theres no way in hell after i pay @ least 300,000Y for the motor, 60,000Y +25 tranny and custom drive train (IF any is needed, maybe build a cross-mission), and other little nicknacks... im NOT paying another 300,000 nto register this bitch.... i was kinda bummed when i heard this...

but yea... ls uno swap over here, not saying they wouldnt do it... but i've never seen one

no US cars in Japan are RHD. At least all the ones that I have seen.

Wow, I didn't know the price for legalizing a car in Japan was ridicously expensive! $30,000 U.S. :ugh:

Used to drive by a Ford Dealership in Yamaguchi back when i was stationed there and it had Explorers, Stangs, and Focus', all RHD.

if i can do the swap for very cheap here outside of the cost of the motor i dont see why being any where else on the planet with modern technology would make it any more or less expensive lol. its a relatively cheap swap in comparison to say an rb or such. ive got about maybe 5k invested total in mine. i bought the motor set without tranny for 1500 (bought a wrecked ss) bought a t56 for 1200 bux and the rest is history.

I think C5 C6 is lhd. trailblazers, Jeeps, Fords are rhd. Only RB30 available here was a OS Giken kit. The RB30ET is out of Austrailia. And the blocks are about 150.00 Aus dollar down there. They are in Holdens. Perfect for a Skyline GTST swap.

i hear ya on that but i'm in yokohama where most shops (reputable @ that) frown upon a 26 swap into an S chassis when i know for a fact it can be done... no that they cant do it.. .but they want to rape you for any services that you recieve from them... this is the only thing i miss about the states, being able to get machine work or other side labor w/out having to give my left nut... so if they act like that w/ a 26 swap.. imagine a ls1... then u have to find a shop that knows enough about the motor to even want to mess w/ you... i actually know a shop in yokohama who works on import (american) cars exclusively and he laughed @ the idea and said lets try it... but then he started rattling off a list of parts/prices that only gave me a headache...

so yea the first battle is parts (and not the motor but other maybe 1-off stuff) then IF you don't do your own work OR have a place to do your own work (for example me and bjorkluv are in the military and have the facilities to work on our own car- most japanese people do not) forget about it

yeah that's right it's $3000 not $300k...oops hehe.

I was thinking of the US cars that they import not the ones that are sell there at the dealerships ;). I've seen impala lowriders there, also the vettes that were posted on here. All were LHD...

Well, would it really even be worth the swap? The only real advantage I could see is the massive TQ available from the hole, it would make it great for city driving. I wonder if you can get the SR's or RB's up to that TQ level with the amount of money you'd spend on the LSx swap..

& parts would be a pain to get in Japan. I wonder if those engines break down alot? We could just arrange a parts swap from here :)

I'll send you all the LSx parts for life if you send me a Chaser.. :)

it can still be done man. make freinds with a welder and your gooood to go. there is a book on ls1's you can buy that will inform you of 90% of what you need to know to pull it off. not to mention there are atleast 10 of us in the nation documented swaps underway so you can ask around for help. ive got wire diagrams and schematics to do it using lamost 90% of the factory wiring on the s chassis to cut cost as well.

alittle offtopic but kinda still with the theme. any of you guys in japan see people swaping sr's for ka's? every one in the states seem to swap ka's for sr's. wonder if some do it vise versa in japan. itd be pretty balla to see a silvia with a ka-t swap.lol

Ka for an SR, sorry. I wouldn't know anyone that would think of doing that. SR's are so easy to build with the infinite amount of aftermarket support it just wouldnt make sense..

Oh yeah nothing against the KA. I don't hate.

Anto
12-31-2006, 02:37 AM
That's true..

Sure, the KA might have more TQ down low when it's Turbo'ed, but god knows how hard it is to get replacement parts for one in Japan.

Same with the LSx motors, BUT they're waaaaaay pimper. Turbo LSx. WOOOoooooo. Now that's what I call a motor.
