why's your exhaust facing inward? lol i honestly havnt seen that before.

12-27-2006, 02:15 AM
lol yea reminds me of Honda CRX exhausts. If your paid more then 3 k then u did get ripped IMO.

If your paid more then 3 k then u did get ripped IMO.
Quoting for truth....I am hoping the previous owner didn't just rivet the rear over fenders on and do nothing with the body panel underneath. If that is the case....and you paid more than 3k....you got ripped.
The exhaust looks pathetic angled like that as well.
FaLKoN240
12-27-2006, 02:59 AM
LOL that rear quarter panel has like NO work done to it, and there's probably a fatty dent underneith. That car is a bucket.
If you paid 700 you did good. That is considering IF it runs.
!Zar!
12-27-2006, 03:08 AM
That car has enough fail for two.
Pointlessly relocated radio to dash.
I would say it was pointless to put the over fender on, but he's covering a fatty ass dent. You can't even run a wider tire because the fender wasn't cut.
That car has been repainted more times than Joan Rivers face.
You bought a car with the exhaust facing the wrong way. That wasn't an incentive not to purchase it?
I mean really, my exhaust is worth more than your whole car.
Enough of me telling you what is wrong with that thing.
Now I'll tell you what's wrong that you wanted to know.
Your battery is dead. How hard is it to get AAA or something to help you out.
Just because the battery died you think you got ripped off? That alone isn't a reason to.
But overall, you did.

12-27-2006, 03:27 AM
No need for anymore flaming guys. It's mistake and just let it be. Save up some money and fix up the car more.
I say you sell the silvia conversion. Fix the whole exhaust angle thing. Buy another battery. Just make the car nicer to daily for yourself.
Vatche
12-27-2006, 03:32 AM
buy a new battery....
he prolly bought it for the silvia front, i say he starts off having the muffler turned or straightened at a muffler shop.
then he can cut the rear fenders later on. its a project. then he can read up on zilvia and learn to be normal and do all the bandwagon mods.
and in no way am i flaming.
charlie321
12-27-2006, 11:43 AM
lol meh, i don't think i got ripped only because of the battery. i did get this car for 3100...
-The Spark Plugs are loose
-Fenders havn't been cut
-Intake Tubes are not tight
-Idle's around 1.4Rpm
-Guage Cluster Light doesn't work
-Driver seat latch broke
-Dead Battery
I just recently found out that the dude crashed the front end badly, and then put a new silvia front end to cover it up, it hasn't been reported -_-. Gah i'm so dumb, can't believe i bought this. Did i mention i'm only 15 years old?

Theres a track near Long Beach? That lets kids drive? And not care about insurance damage kid might do to himself or others?
I'm pretty sure there ISN'T a track near Long Beach, and if it IS a track you are driving on, what kind of parent/guardian would let their kid drive on a track? (Since you obviously would have to be driven to said Track).
Btw, thats Ricer excuse #1 in the back, why dont you get 'x' car and dump $$$ instead of buying a brand new 'z'
Real excuse not to drive STI, S2k, etc is cuz you're broke. Just like everyone else here at zilvia :bigok:
Real advice though: You don't have to pretend something you're not. Just read and become knowledgeable and work on your car on your own time.
(This is assuming you didn't lie about your age and that you didn't lie about you owning that car)
No flames intended, I'm just confused.
charlie321
12-28-2006, 03:28 AM
alright your assumptions are right, that is my car, i worked hard for the money, i am 15, and every once in a while i do go to the tracks "Streets of Willow", you can go check it out, as long as you have a helmet and good safety measures, then your good to go. Why would you need a permit or license? Parents? They don't mind, as long as i'm safe. I don't remember age being a factor at the track. There's that one 16 year old kid, he got his D1 License this month. Drives an 86, but crashed at drivers search.
I don't mind if you don't believe me. I would work on my car if i had tools though..., you can come down and look at if if you want. But i'm not lying at all.
Insurance wise? there's cars on the track that are meant for track and not street, they don't have insurance, so does it matter if i do? Me hurting myself, is the same as an adult hurting themselves on the track.

im pretty sure everyone took care of the dead battery suggestions ,and most of ur problems.. but i didnt see anything about ur idle.
Try advancing the timing, and adjusting your TPS to compensate, and you should havea good idle around 600-800 or so.
I dont know if that helps you out at all. but thats my suggestion.
Id say regardless of how much you got "ripped off" or whatever, its still your car, and you paid for it. so now all you gotta do is work on it to get it the way you want it.
The exhaust situation is kinda funny.. never seen that before. haha
anyways, congrats on getting a sil, and whos us some updates when you get some!!
charlie321
12-28-2006, 04:26 PM
haha thanks for the support, i made some plans for this car, you'll see eventually. It only idles like that after a warm up, i think maybe its cause some of the intake tubes are broken and loose.

haha thanks for the support, i made some plans for this car, you'll see eventually. It only idles like that after a warm up, i think maybe its cause some of the intake tubes are broken and loose.
my 240 i just got running, and what a bucket.. but it did the same thing, until i messed with the TPS, and timing, may not be the best timing job, but i dont have a light, and i go by ear.. and it holds fine...
as for 16 year old Pat. ur absolutely right. He's 16, and he has been in and out of events, even when i was at Laughlin Pro Am, he was tryin to get his license, and the kid is good. He even showed up at D1 this year.
So dont give up because of discouragement. And im sure if you ever need help with ur car, myself, and a lot of other people will be glad to help you work on ur car with ya. Its a good learning experience, and for me a good teaching experience. Plus. .id rather work on a car then do anything else, any other day.

How does that get it running properly though?
charlie321
12-29-2006, 12:43 AM
it runs fine, just idles high due to problems with intake, and the sparkplugs are loose, so the motor doesn't stay smooth.
right now, i just want people i can maybe learn to drift with? i don't want to go alone, and not to far out lol.
cmcdougle
12-29-2006, 12:52 AM
there probably was an lcd or something in the middle, so that's why the radio is moved over.
air leaking into the engine would cause idle problems. . . fix that before you mess with the timing.
And the guy you bought it from was an idiot if he didn't put the spark plugs in right, but the exhaust gave that one away already.
but yeah, I'll trade you problems, it's nothing too bad. Don't track out a crashed car if the frame is bent. I'd go drifting with you, but I live in Irvine. Get your license then you can.
charlie321
12-29-2006, 03:01 AM
i guess i shouldn't of said the frame is bent, just some parts bent. Irvine isn't too far, how bout i come to you? lol.. i'll get a license in Late June or Early July. damn.. 6 months -_-. The sparkplugs are just loose. Maybe i'll meet you some day.

If your plug holes are stripped, try putting a little epoxy on the plug threads for a temporary fix untill you can get a new head or better yet, a new engine (if the head threads are what is causing the problem).
I'd say 3100 is about twice of what I would pay for it, but unfortunately its too late to undo the damage done by the ass you purchased it from. It's no doubt a good start by far! Looks very solid, and the quarters just need some finishing up or if you like the racey look, leave them!
As for the exhaust, just get it fixed at your local muffler shop, or go out to a Harbor Freight (if there is stores out your way?) and buy a cut-off wheel and a little 110v mig welder. Those will probably come in handy once and a while too so do it yourself and save some money! (If you're like me, green is scarce, so ever penny saved is more for down the road!)
I kinda like that radio, its definately different and allows for a nice touch screen as cmcdougle said. You could pimp it out with a carputer, and still hook it up to the radio for high quality tunes! I might do that too so I can put some gauges down low out and of sight!
Look on the bright side man, you've got a hell of a car to start out with, it moves and you're 15, who has a car that chill at 15? A kid that goes by the name of charlie321 obviously....:bigok: I rememeber purchasing my first 240 a few months before turning 16 as well, and it wasn't nearly as nice as that (but was a bit less at 1,000).
Oh and welcome to Zilvia, the forums where every critic is out to do what they do best, criticize and bust on you.:-/
EDIT: Go to Sears and buy yourself a 151pc tool set for yourself, they help out a hell of a lot!

haha thanks alot, i'll try my best to work from here, but i'm still wondering if i can do anything about the quarter panels, i just don't want that wide body on it, and i'd rather have them rolled instead.. any ideas? i don't want to take them off and just see holes lol... i think my gaskets are leaking... :[
yfz460
12-29-2006, 08:58 PM
He has already learned that fwd sucks, its obvious man!:keke:
As for the quarters, drill out the rivets, and use that little welder to fill them in. Grind the welds down flat and smooth it up with some body filler.
charlie321
12-29-2006, 09:01 PM
is that something i should do? or something i have to get someone to do? and how much would it cost lol
yfz460
12-29-2006, 09:02 PM
You can drill out the rivets with a standard drill, and bring it to a bodyshop to have the holes welded/smoothed. I'm going to guess to have the holes fixed it'd probably run anywhere from 100-250 bucks. A little welder at Harbor Freight would run around $100 and you can do much more with that!
Not the best welder, but it's better than nothing. Beggers can't be choosers!

$110 at Harbor Freight

lol hopefully it doesn't cost too much.. i wanna do it before i get my car painted
yfz460
12-29-2006, 09:06 PM
Thats one thing they could fix for next-to-nothing if you were to get it repainted. Do everything you want to do to the car before spending mucho $$ on paint.
Paint should be the last thing to do, or if you're stripping it completely down and have all the parts, the first.

If you just broke the glass you can replace that quite easily. Get to a junkyard and find one for your car. The panel has two screws in it. One in the door handle tray (Right under the handle). Other screw is under a plastic cap/cover just left of the handle.(Their might be one more on the "OH SHIT" handle.) Pull the panel off and try not to break the plastic snap-in guides. Remove the plastic cover with all the adhesive sh*t. The window has 2 10mm screws in it. Pull those out and carefully slide the window out. Then just repeat process to reinstall. You shouldn't have too much of a hassle with this. Just take your time and do it right.:goyou:

So like, who calls BS on this car being tracked? Quit trying to front. youll only get found out in the end.
cmcdougle
12-30-2006, 09:10 AM
just get a spark plug wrench, pull off the wire, and tighten those suckers down. Don't wrench on them, just do it just right. They're not holding anything down, so they don't have to be uber tight.
For the bumper, there are 3 screws on each side attatched to the fender. Then, there are 1 or 2 screws on arms that connect to the chassis kinda in the wheel wells, maybe under plastic covers (if it has them). The lights on the bumper just disconnect, you press a tab on the connector and it pulls right out. Don't yank it; it should be easy.
For the exhaust, I've got a free one you can have. It has the N1 style muffler on what I think is a stock exhaust, but it's not so fag-like. LMK.

I mean seriously, 3100 for a car, 15 year old save up that much? Either that or his parents arent the smartest around. Buying your kid a car thats as old as him and letting him track it? Yea I still think

Buy or download an FSM. Will pay for it's self in the long run. And sign up for automotive classes if your school has it.
charlie321
01-01-2007, 02:14 PM
FSM?, and man i would join an automotive class if i could, they took it out years ago -_-, they even had a garage for 6 cars and you can go work on them with all the tools you needed. so lame...

It's not a Silvia goddammit. It's a 240.
ALTRNTV
01-01-2007, 04:13 PM
You won't find alot of Silvia enthusiasts around here, since 99% of us haven't even seen one.
coreansurfer
01-01-2007, 04:30 PM
ive seen one, and worked one one too, but for some reason it was strangely familiar to the 240's that i usually work on...... i wonder why? hahahahahahhaa

01-01-2007, 04:40 PM
Find the wheel. now look behind it. the surface parallel to the wheel you see there is part of the chassis. now follow that surface to the front of the car. There is an arm that sticks out from the bumper level with the top of the bumper that attatches to that surface, and one bolt and one nut hold it down. Take them off, then go to the other side of the car, and do the same for the other arm.
Disconnect any wires that are connected (maybe do that first so the bumper doesn't fall on you), then take off your bumper.

hahah this is fucking hilarious!! seriously kid.. part that POS out or whatever is left of it and try to get some of that money back.. when you're old enough to drive and have a job that pays you may want to think about getting a car.
Or keep this and strip it to the ground and do it right.. "SEARCH" zilvia young JEDI! and you will find your answers!
charlie321
01-02-2007, 12:21 AM
lol i appriciate your support, and all your opinions and advice, positive and negative, really i do. i started this thread knowing i was gonna get some negatives lol. i'm just here to learn =o. wait till later to get a 240? peh fuck that. but thats just my opinion. i'd rather learn now than sit on my ass and play video games all day -_-.
zilvia young jedi? Lol! yar so thanks again to you all.
......so about my wide fenders.... how do i take them off -_-
tacotacotaco
01-02-2007, 07:40 AM
^With much skill and dedication. drill it out.
cmcdougle
01-02-2007, 12:17 PM
well, if you want, I am probably going to part out my sil80 this week. You can have the whole back fender and roof piece, but it has a few dents, and it's black.
The dents aren't too hard to hammer out, but it might be quicker to drill out the wide fenders, instead of replacing that huge gnarly piece.
charlie321
01-02-2007, 05:23 PM
its harder to replace the quarter panels? maybe i should just drill it out
ALTRNTV
01-02-2007, 05:25 PM
Removing the quarter panel is not recommended for beginners, most usually take it to a body shop. Just drill the wide fenders out.
charlie321
01-02-2007, 05:39 PM
and i can get someone to fill in the holes? and would it look good?
Brian
01-02-2007, 05:49 PM
dude, I'm not sure why, but why does everybody have to freak out when somebody says silvia or 180. Shut the fuck up.
I'm making it a point to use the Japanese names now.
I'm calling my new car a 180.
To get the fenders off you have to take a drill and drill out the metal rivets. pretty easy really.
Sorry I haven't been following, but have you got the battery fixed and stuff?
FSM is a factory service manual. a big fat book that will tell you how to do pretty much anything on the car. It has diagrams of everything. Wiring diagrams. Simple steps to take things off, put them on, etc.
trsilvias13
01-02-2007, 05:53 PM
You won't find alot of Silvia enthusiasts around here, since 99% of us haven't even seen one.
Im part of that 1%. I own one. Up for sale too btw.
And OP. DL a FSM, and read it a few times on how to take out the front bumper then go for try it. It will make much more sense. Pretty much follow where the bumper meets the fender. Then there the top and botton. Pretty much all you have to do it follow the bumper in a cirlcle and take off any screw that you can see. Pull and tug slowing, if stuck you can sort of feel where you missed a bolt.
And this kid can not part out this car... why? because he cant even take out the bumper.
