I have a 91 240sx with the stock motor. The problem that i am having is the red line is 7 grand when accelerating or reving the car gets weak around 6 grand. their is a small poping in the exhaust it was trying to shut off when cruising but that stop when i changed dist. cap button and wires. Then if I push it hard through the gears and let off it shuts off.

oh....newbies.....gotta love em. Guys save the flaming....it's the holidays!!!
Well, for starters, you really shouldn't be pushing your car to redline driving around town, unless you are trying to blow the motor.
And some insight to the KA, the motor is designed to produce torque, not HP. So your HP peak is not as high as you would expect from a honda. These motors stock are typically more agreeable with lower RPM shifting, around 4500 to 5000 rpms.
Some minor bolt on mods make the top end alot more fun than stock.
The popping coming from the exhaust is called backfiring....one of the main causes is too lean of a fuel mixture. Which leads me to my assumption.....fuel filter clogged or failing fuel pump.
As far as your bogging and shutting off, also supports the fuel problem assumption. Some basic maintenance tips:
Replace your fuel filter, air filter, oil + filter change, and spark plugs.
You might be having a problem with low fuel pressure due to clogged filter. Check these basic points or just simply replace them so you know they're good to go and see how the car drives.
Another big culprit of the backfiring is a faulty MAF or intake leak, but check the fuel first. That's the more likely target.
Good luck.

sounds like not enough fuel delivery. i.e failing fuel pump

Sounds like you hit the rev cut!(the hard cut), the soft cut would be the speed limiter but if your at 6grand my guess is hard cut. Some people have to turn the key off then on again to start the car after it.
You probably have codes stored now, see what they are.

and BTW....WTF is a hard cut??? Are you talking about the rev limiter?
I've never hit the rev limiter in my cars but I have gone to 6000 before and never had a hard cut happen (whatever that is). And if the KADE has a rev limiter it would most likely be around 6750 wouldn't it? Hence the red portion of the tach? If you're thinking about a fuel cut off...I'm pretty sure that doesn't happen until 6750 or so. Not 6000.
Someone elaborate for me. please.

Fuel cut can happen when the injectors are determined to be working to hard by the ecu. It's not always rpm specific. Speed limiter soft cut! Which means when you slow down you can excelerate again! The hard cut is the rev limiter cut, sometimes it hits so hard you have too physically to off the car and turn it back on again. Hard cut!
You do know that the Tach is not accurate right?
I said it sounds like!

In top condition the 91 KA keeps pulling above 6k
Gleb and I took a ride in our friend Jacksons 91 coupe, for some reason it was a lot quicker then the usual KA...
We concluded that the engine was mint and in top shape... seriously, JSpecBnr32 and jvstudio can vouch for me X_X
On a more serious note, the KA was designed for low end and doesn't like red line.

only 7k? KA's can rev to 11k.
Romp on it dude.
As soon as your motor is blown, you can sell your car to someone who will take care of it mechanically.

hell yeah - KA's will take it all day at 11 thou!
you should put vtec on it - it'll rev even higher!
