View Full Version : Who has actually used K sports?

I'm researching K-sports and trying to find some real information but most of what I read it just hearsay. I know the whole you get what you pay for, so don't just throw that at me. I don't expect Tein or Silk Road quality for $700 range coilovers but I do want to know what the real world experience of people has been with them.
Can someone who has used them or does use them please comment?

ksport circuit pro coilovers were on the s14 that set fast time at willow and i believe pheonix - they arent the cheapies - but if u want ksports - they make nicer dampers than the kontrols. but with hte kontrols @ 700$ - u get what u pay for.

I have been told that stances get leakage from a local professional source :P, but I dont really respect his opinion on suspensions at all, lol. My friend bought a set of the $700ish ksports off of ebay, and right out of the box, they were bouncier then shit, bouncier then his cut stock springs even :P. I dont know about the more expensive ones, but the cheapies really suck. They just recently started leaking after a year of fairly heavy driving and no accidents. Megan is in that price range, and is a much better coilover imo. But like you mentioned, you get what you pay for. Aside from the one guy who told me they collapse and get leakage, I have heard great things about stance coilovers. Save up and extra $400 and do it right the first time!

my megans run really nice actually, i like the ride height, and the stiffness isnt too intolerable for daily driving and sick for drifting. i run track coilovers fyi...

i run ksports for my daily driven car. stance for my track car. i agree, do it right and save the cash for the stance. granted i have no complaints on my daily driven car, but the stances are money.

I'm sorta on a fixed budget. I'm a student right now so I dont have much income. I've been saving a while to get these and now they way I'm looking at it is. I can get the K-sports + RUCA's, subframe spacers and something else for the multilink. or I can get the megans and only the subframe spacers. and then with the Stance's I'm looking at trying to scrounge up more money just to afford them.
ksport-$700ish
megan-$900
Stance-$1100
Silk's - $1500
Also keep in mind I have yet to do a track event and most likley wont do more than one or 2 a year. (but I might do alot more once I get coilovers) I do drive twisty roads in TN all the time since I'm going to school up there so they won't be wasted, whatever i get

I used and enjoyed K-sports for 9 months on my old rb s13.
I had megan on my g/f's S14. They bound up and became un-height-adjustable after like 2 months in SC in summer time no less....
I am now on Stance, and life is so much better....but I came REALLY close to buyin' K-sport again.
Ps. when I had K-sport, they were still 550 shipped (back in the day)

ksports are so good that they make my bro's s14 chassis twist on turns. this is cuz the retarded previous owner decided to have a sunroof installed which pretty much fucks the chassis over :hahano:

dude either get RUCAs and toe-arms at the same time, or get neither and deal with the redonkulous camber. if you adjust your camber, toe changes and vise-versa... i made the mistake of just getting RUCAs. i raped my toe, lost all highway speed tracking, and lost my rear tires in like a month (keep in mind i have a welded diff).
whatever coilovers you buy get RUCAs and toe-arms at the same time. subframe spacers can wait.

well said Alex^ i had megan 8K/6K on my old rb hatch and loved them, on my coupe i have jic flta2's and they are my most favirote coilover ive tried save up your money don't get Ksport/D2 shit, Id say at least megans or better yet stances or KTS.
-Gleb!
I've heard Stance > Silkroad simply because of the company SUPPORT for the product.
Sure, they're okay now, but in a few months when something happens to one of them...
Remember that guy in the B/S/T forum selling 3 Silk Roads for like $400? That's because they wanted like $700 for a single replacement. Meh
shane_lxi
12-23-2006, 01:14 AM
KTS is great too for the same reason. Replacement shocks can be found for like $600 a set. So if something does go wrong, no biggie really.
Edgar
12-23-2006, 01:19 AM
Reason for that is because they don't just want to sell one out of a set. I mean what will they do with the rest of the 3 coilovers? I do know that the KTS's are serviced here by SPL Parts and STANCE well they are simply awesome and can answer that question for you. I don't know what their company policy is on the rebuild kits or anything since they are a fairly new product still. On the Silkroads ive heard alot of people needed rebuilds this and that but again that just might be because of wear and tear. I mean I guess it is true you get what you pay for. Honestly on my next S Chassis I get no doubt I am doing STANCE for one because of their company back up support on the product and two because I have heard nothing negative on STANCE. KTS is a good product to. Ive ran them on 2 of my S13's.

Yeah, I went cheap on the set of coils on my first s13 and bought the Powertrix super streets (which are actually inverted monotube and I guess made by the same company that makes KTS). In any event, I've got Stance on my fb and the ride quality is WORLDS better, plus the damping actually keeps up so the car doesn't skitter around when you hit bumps mid corner. Couldn't be happier and the customer service is most excellent as well.

I have tein super drifts and they kick ass. Track use only but as a daily driver I unintentionally slide the onramps of the 405 freeway at 80MPH....LOL Ksports are cool for beginners but if you want competition, spend more money and get Tein, Zeal, or cusco.

holemilk00
12-23-2006, 10:56 AM
I've had tein SS and flexes, both are over priced for what you get, my DD right now has D2s because I bought them for like $400 brand new, the car I sold in the summer had Ksports on it, for the money, I couldn't beat it, even now at $750 I still think they are a better buy then anything Tein has ever made when you look at how much they want for that s*!t. But if you want the most for your dollar, silkroad all the way, I'm about to tear down my DD car and that will be in the mix, I have them in the garage. People need to realize that tein outside of the US, is just an over priced midgrade coilover, stop reading your superstreet mags and going with what you think are the JDM TYTE coilovers, if you just want to over pay for a name, go buy teins, if you want to know what actually works, start going to track events, hell go the the local mall parking lot autoX events, and look at who is actually running good times without a massive motorswap. One of the guys down in MB back in the summer was running the some of the fastest times there on ksports, because they were set up CORRECTLY and he was still on an NA KA motor. Which is the main reason so many people complain about coilovers in the first place, they simply don't know how to adjust them. The best advice I can give you, would be go to meets, events, or anywhere you can, and just ask guys what they are running, and then ask for a ride, in the end its going to be your opinion that matters, and you have to find the ride that YOU like and are looking for.

KTS vs. Stance has been argued so many times over and over, and I think there still isn't really a winner.
I say just go for whichever one you can get a better deal on
I personally am going with Stances after the holiday is over

You are going to have negative rear camber with any coilover if you dont get rucas or the like. It just comes naturally with lowering most cars. You can adjust it with stock parts to a certain extent though...

or he could get some huge wheels and go ultra slammed with -5 in the rear for the ultra tuck ;)
a bit off topic - has anyone tried the ksport or megan rucas more importantly has anyone broken any yet? my rucas are starting to rust :(

You guys might want to take a look at ksports higher lines of coilovers like the Slide Kontrol or GT PRO. They also just released a high end coilover retailing close to 3000 which uses a nitrogen tank in each coilover. If you guys have any questions just PM me, RCI is an authorized ksport dealer.

KTS, because they're blue! :bigok:
Supposedly Stances don't go as low as most other coilovers. I'm not sure if this is true about the newest ones or not.

Its damping not dampening. And 4n whoever told you stance doesnt go low is fucking retarded. Stance's go loooooooooooooow. When i say low i mean fucking low. Lower than youll ever have to go. Read any review about them and its one of the things youll hear them raving about.(among others)In conclusion Stance is the shit.

Drakon aren't you friends with the OSS guys? And you know where they work right? Unless they don't like you anymore, then I can understand....
Anyway, guy that said Stance don't low has been misinformed.
Not to mention Stance actually will sell you shorter springs if you need to go lower (I don't see any reason why).
KTS from what I've read and heard is stiff all the time, whereas Stance is stiff, but very smooth and not bouncy at all, plus Stance comes with 2 sets of springs.
I am so stoked about Stance it's not even funny.

Ya I am, with most of them at least. The shop is closed now so I've been asking around elsewhere to see about cheaper posibilities. As soon as it's open I think I'll be going in to buy the Stance's. Sound's like my best bet. Thanks a lot for the input everyone. Should sticky this post for all the other people that are being swayed by K-sports low prices.

please see below post and read the directions before installing something on a customers car it will help your business in the long run
i was running kei office d1's in my s14. (talk about sex on wheels) and the cheapie ksports in my coupe.
the ksports are a very good system for the money and if you adjust them right they are not that bouncy at all. they are desinged to have the height adjusted from the bottom not the spring like most. if you adjust them from the spring they become VERY bouncy.
so if you have ksports and want to adjust the heigth adjust from the bottom and they will be fine. come to think of it it even tells you not to use the spring perches on their site. (yup it does here is from their website)
Technical Questions:
How do I adjust height on my coilovers?
Most of our coilover systems include an adjustable lower mount that can spin up or down on the shock casing. Spin the lower mount up to lower and down to raise. Than it must be secured by locks on either side of the lower mount. On some applications the use of allen bolts to tighten the lower mount are used instead of locking perches.
Cant I adjust height by adjusting the spring perches?
Yes you can adjust height by changing spring tension, by adjusting the spring perch up or down, but we DO NOT recommend it on most applications. In systems designed with lower adjustable mounts the spring perch should not be used for height adjustment.

dude the ksports are a really decent coilover system go with them and you wont be dissapointed if all your doing is local events. i would say use them for FD.
they are a great heavy system that comes with pillow balls and you can adjust the dampning very quickly.
the choice is yours though. i just dont want you to make a decision based on gossip and hear say. such as they are bouncy, etc. i have owned many of the best suspensions on the market and i hold these higher than the lower end teins.
