did he just lay resin on it to make it stick or something?

20 til 3
12-22-2006, 05:21 AM
he did it a wierd way, mainly because he fixed some cracks in the dash, but if you went to a local hardware/fabric store, you could pick up some spray on stick(can, like 11 bucks a can where i am) spray it, and lay it down, its just a bitch to get all the little imperfections out

Good Idea, Poor execution. Is that his family print? if not it's kinda a crappy print. Also looks like he jizzed all over it.

12-22-2006, 09:18 AM
alcantara wrap is the ish

agreed.. plus you can almost pretend it was done for performance (though the same could be argued with that flannel)... do less huge plaid if thats the way your going though... some old porsches/racers or whatever in the 70's and stuff had plaid in their interiors... try to emulate that

axiomatik
12-22-2006, 09:20 AM
yeah, that looks like crap. good idea though.

for those that want to do suede, it is way harder to do, it won't stretch nicely to wrap around the curves like fabric does.

DUDE FUCK YOU HATERS I THINK THATS SICK!

Nice try... Two thumbs up for attempting something. My entire car is getting wrapped(dash, door panels, rear panels and headliner) in a marine grade carbon fiber vynil. Once you see it in person or after photographs it is the way to go. It will never fade as its meant to be on boats. Suede will fade in a fast amount of time.

i like it. it looks terrible and i bet it makes seeing on a sunny day impossible but i think it's cool.

i want to do that, have you seen any write ups or anything?

12-22-2006, 11:21 AM
I will be covering the dash over the gauges area only. I'll be using just black vinyl, same as what I used with my speaker covers and glovebox. I'm not looking for anything to stand out like he did with his flannel lumberjack dash. :faint:

It would look pretty dope if it was done right.

-1 for laying the resin on top of the cloth.

I've seen it in person and it looks terrible. Bubbles everywhere, and it's kind of yellow and cloudy. Not for me, but +1 for trying something different.

in a way - it kinda reminds me of jackie stewart... for those of you that arent familiar with who jackie stewart is - he raced formula 1 with the likes of gil villneuve, Graham Hill, Jack Brabham, emerson fittipaldi etc... He always had a stripe of plaid around his helmet.

is this thread for real.. did you actually do that to your dash.... im suprised theres not 100 posts on this thing already that looks ... yea.. terrible idea.

!Zar!
12-22-2006, 01:03 PM
Whoever did that to their dash obviously had no idea what they were doing.

The cloth choice look horrible to me. But I could care less about the color/cloth.

But did he really have to do a halfassed job?

Looks like he threw it on there, and adhered it with skeet.

A for aspiration.

F for fail.

Thread starter: Don't do it like him, and I'm sure it will come out better.

:loco: stewart raced with villeneuve?

and he had a stripe of plaid because he was a Scot. not because its some trendwhore dog in a purse of a rich girl bullshit.

also his helmet wasn't shitty looking like this dash

plaid is goofy as fuck haha. but its your car, do what you want.

I've thought about wrapping some shit in my car with Luis Vuitton or Gucci wrap, but not the whole dash haha.

I'm doing my dash in black tweed if I end up keeping it :P. Door panels will be non existent, so just the dash will be fine :D.

12-22-2006, 08:36 PM
Okay, so in idea, I am not angry, lay down a flat color or something a little less tasteless, and the idea is actually good. Lay down a pattern, such as plaid, burberry, leopard, or ANYTHING other than a solid color without a STRONG fundamental reason and you're behaving like a classic fucknut ricer.
Don't do it.
... not like that, at least

12-22-2006, 10:35 PM
lol, thats right, the paisly designs. But that wasnt the entire dash either, that was just accents, not the center piece :P, lol.

I don't know about you guys but anything other than the factory colors are usually a bit much. I will probably only change the seats and leave everything else stock looking. Stock S13 seats = :bash:

this idea is old. I did that with denim to my door panels 2 years ago and my dash. If anything I like the idea of the faux suede, or anything that eliminates the glare from the dash. I hate that.

Now if you laid Louis Vutton pattern across that dash I'd be giving you props and a cookie. X_X
