SR20DET - intake plenum
I was wondering if Anyone has ever bought one of these knockoff greddy intake plenums
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/89-94-92-93-NISSAN-S13-240SX-SR20DET-INTAKE-MANIFOLD_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33742QQhashZit em250064346352QQihZ015QQitemZ250064346352QQtcZphot o
I know you usually get what you pay for, but I have purchased things in the past that really surprised me! I was wondering if anyone had any info on these or similar products for an SR20DET
How is the quality?
Are there any leaks?
How does it bolt up?
Is there any bungs, or anything missing?
Any Problems?
and If you've noticed an increase in power/torque after installing it?
Also, what did you do about the Throttle body?
Can you use stock TB or upgrade to a larger TB?
I'm building my motor on a budget, but I'd rather keep the stock manifold if this is Junk and won't see any gains.
Let me know

what i know of compare to my real greddy intake manifold there is a difference. mine has four extra holes on the bottom for NOS or whatever you gonna add but the fake ones does not. has a real good fitment compare to the fakers. you can use your stock TB. but i dont really know about the fake ones. as for leaks youll have to compress air through it under water to see if there's any air bubbles comming out of it. i've notice increase in power and torque when i put it on.
this is my comparison to the fake one.

Thanks, Good to know. I'd like to use an authentic greddy one, but my funds are low right now and the motor is going in next week... Maybe i'll walk across the street (Greddy Warehouse) and see if I can work out a deal or something...
Does anyone on here have a used greddy plenum? or have any information, run any tests on a knock off manifold like the one in the link (post 1)

search this was talked about a few weeks ago
the quality sucks it needs to be deburred and ported other then that for the price it gets the job done

Thanks, not to be a pain, but can you post a link to that thread? I am at work and can't be searching through websites... Only quick posts and then close the window before anyone sees =) haha

Building a budget motor is stupid if you have to go though such drastic measures to cut corners.
I'd rather leave the stock plenum than rock that pos.
I serisously doubt that has been flow tested.

Do you really trust a company that has a pic of that in there forsale ad and fake japanese!? BLEH!
Those parts remind me of a transvestite. Just because they look real, doesn't mean they are.
Don't have sex with transvestites.

hahaha!!! I'm not really trying to cut corners, I just wanted to get some infromation. when I say budget motor, i mean get good parts but save some money where I can.
brand new Nismo mounts, Exedy stage3 clutch, greddy metal head gasket, rocker arm stoppers, and oil catch, koyo rad, flexalite fans, and oil cooler... but, i have to save some money somewhere, all these parts get expensive fast

Then don't use Flex-a-Lite fans and use Altima fans.
Exedy Stage 3? What kinda power you plan on making?
Rocker arm stoppers are waste of money.
Oil catch = Arizona Iced Tea glass bottle. Or Sobe Greentea.
Done. Saved money.

^^ haha is that a honda prelude in that picture? wtf
anyway cutting corners on air/fuel components may not be such a good plan. if anything cut corners on appearance shit first or the stuff sosideways said

Matt on here has a Freddy. He has made 522 rwhp on his set up. I think his user name is HarlockSSX. try looking him up.

Brand new condition never try to use.
JDM Nismo style SR20DET intake manifold.
that alone will get me not to buy it.

You save money through time, I waited 5 months to get the cash to buy my S15 Conversion kit from Extreme Dimensions, My car looked loke shit before now I got cops pulling me over just to see whats under my Carbon Fiber hood, hahaha. Think of it this way, with all the money you've invested your really gonna spend money on something that will potentially not improve your cars looks or performance?

I'll look into the altima fans,
got the oil catch and hoses for $15 =)
Right now, i'm not going to be pushing a lot of power, but once I get funds back up I want to build the motor up to be around 450whp

I'll look him up, but do you know if he dyno'd before and after with that manifold?
I am more concerned about the performance of the car than the looks right now. My buddy owns a paint shop and is going to paint it for free and do some minor body work. I'll be happy with the body as long as it's clean.
Motorwise, I just want a very reliable motor that i can occasionally beat on.
I never had my mind set on this manifold, I was just trying to get information on it thats all... I'm not being cheep, just being informed. You don't always have to use name brand parts, sometimes you can find better parts for less...

He dynoed with it on. I think the one on hybriddynamics.com might be better. The casting is rough even on the greddy. Just smooth out the interior where you can hit it and call it a day. Let me know what you decide.
I've heard some terrible reviews from tuners who have installed and tuned on these.
On more than one occasion I have heard that the aluminum is so porous that it actually leaks boost from the middle of the casting.
The inside is apparently so poorly ported that in one case they cut one in half to port it out and then welded it back together, also fixing pinhole leaks in the process.
If you buy one, the first thing you should do is try to pressurize it... at least fill it with water and see if that leaks out anywhere. (even a dribble will be a boost leak when pressurized)
The same people who hated that manifold loved the Greddy.
I have a Greddy, and I love it, too. Try to find one used for cheap.

right now its a toss up between the greddy, a freddy, and a GTIR ITB manifold... I'm still researching about the gtir swap and what is involved, but i'd love to have itb's on my SR.
If anyone else has done this, or knows a thread with a how to or what is involved and needed, let me know. I will search when I have some time but I only get a few minutes at a time to get on here and post real quick.
Oh btw, thanks for the input guys, these are exactly what i'm looking for, not the people that say they are pos with no expanations.
I've heard plenty about the GTIR throttle body swap. It's a lot of work, but can be done.
They are good for mid range power, but not so great for high RPM power. If you're looking for power over 7000rpm, I'd stick with the short runner big plenum single throttle body setup.
The Greddy picks up nicely in that area.
