$125 to drive in this event and we will limit the event to 30 drivers.

More track time than any other driving event.

how dangerous is this course for newb/middle line drivers?

SRT Motorsports
12-12-2006, 05:47 PM
Its not as scary as some people say it to be. You have all day to get familiar with the course and where you feel comfortable drifting. I run the course in a way that its mostly uphill, so gravity is also helping you slow down in case of a mess up :)

Just confirmed a pro rally driver to make it to our event. He will be driving his Evo 6 and drifting the course for practice. This should be really fun to watch.

A hearty "welcome back" to my favorite trackday providers!

I am SO signed up and paid for.

Horsethief is great for all drivers of all skill levels who possess a moderate amount of common sense. It is very technical and thus a truly memorable learning experience.

Everyone who is a member of SRT's track days is a great dude/chick. I've never had anything short of a blast at any of them.

Heya Sam, glad to see you are hosting events again at WSIR. I am going to try to make it but all depends on if my rack is still locking at full counter when I test/tune on the 30th if the car is good I will be out there but I am not a big fan of htm with a steering rack that locks up :)

Why you gotta air my dirty laundry like that?

Bryan, you were at HTM last time I was there... you gotta be there this time. We can all be a close-knit group and make s'mores, tell ghost stories and stuff.

Seriously though, I'm totally psyched about this track day. I haven't been to the track since SRT's last outing and I'm just itching to get back up to speed. If it rains I'm going to laugh and have tons o' fun.

I don't think I'm that good yet, but I sure as hell appreciate the compliment!

A buddy of mine with an Elise is now signed up, which means I'll be doing my best to represent the Nissan contingent as far as grip goes.

This event has the makings of a great one.

Edit: Hey Colin or Sam, a M2000-rated helmet works, right? My brother signed up and we need to figure out his helmet setup. I have a track helmet for my car and I have a brand-new motorcycle helmet I can use if it's allowed.

From O.C. and L.A. 5 to the 14 all the way there

I'm staying at the Inn of Lancaster along with a few of my friends and my brother. You'll know when we get there; I'm running a 3" catback on an NA KA and my friend's Elise has a track pipe.

We're probably going to take the 15N to 91W to the 71N to the 57N to the 210W to the 5N to the 14N because we're a little inland. It's not as convoluted as it seems but I'm not really sure about the traffic situation. Seems like it'd be hell.

There's also the possibility of taking the 15N to the 138W anyway, and they have signs for a detour posted. That adds another 15-30 minutes but is easily navigable. This too would be hell on a Friday night.

There is also th option of what Bryan said. 5N to the 14N... simplifies things.

I'm really not looking forward to the drive up there Friday night. I hate traffic with a passion that burns like the fire of a thousand suns.

last question- What is a better/safer course....HONESTLY

Horse theif mile or The streets of willow? Still deciding what i want to do... Can anyone compare the courses?

cfrost
01-06-2007, 01:17 PM
it kind of depends on how you drive your car, if you're pushing your limits they're both dangerous, but if you drive smart and work your way up to your limits at a comfortable and smart rate, then they're both okay.

horsethief is slower for the most part than streets of willow, there's only a couple corners that are fast and a bit more dangerous

again...it depends on how you drive it.

they're both a blast IMO but horsethief is one that people seem to come off of giggling because it's lots of fun

KA24DESOneThree
01-06-2007, 01:26 PM
Neither is better than the other. Neither are particularly unsafe. The word is "course."

Horsethief is like your favorite mountain/canyon road minus the 300-foot drops and guardrails. However, it still has those totally awesome berms and ditches so you still have to drive like someone with skill.

The Streets, on the other hand, is like a right proper racetrack. It's got longer straights, wider turns, and that badass banked corner known as the Bowl. It also has a blind entrance to a chicane which is fantastic.

I come away from Horsethief with a big smile on my face but the Streets with more knowledge.

Thanks! From what other people have said, the STreets of Willow has gravel or dirt pits around most of the corners that are a little rough, but won't do and serious damage..

Does horsethief have walls? When you say "berms and ditches"...are these types of ditches ones that slow your car down and rip off aero, or the types of ditches that you hit and flip over 3 times?

Again, sorry for needing things spelled out. Either way i will be attending one of the two next week, but i'm slightly concerned about the car as it is NOT my track slut and is a dd. Thanks for any time/opinions.

My car is a DD and so was my old car, I've run HTM lots of times and pushed very hard at a competition there. But this is drift and not grip. I think if you are a smart driver there are no problems. If your going to wreck on htm you will most likely wreck on streets. Just be safe and smart and there is no problem. There is over run on both tracks and there are unsafe turns on both tracks.

Hello, there is no walls at HTM that I know of,just do like FROSTY said and work your speed up,if this is your first time on track, dont go out and try to set a lap record the first time out. A good idea is hook up with somebody that knows the way around and follow them.If you do go off yea, bye bye kit, depending on how low you are.
