I hope someone can help me....i am on my third sr20 motor. the last 2 i installed myself. so i have quite a bite of knowledge about these motors. i ran into timing issues. i finally got the car started. it took 2 days but it just doesn't have the power it should. it is very hesitent and it backfires with black smoke when i hit anything over 5 lbs. i need to know the timing specs for the the cas and i heard about something with zeroing out the cas? what else would i need to know to get the motor back to the exact factory timing specs?????

base timing should be set at 15 degrees. check out heavythrottles sr install faq for more instructions on setting base timing. check for any intercooler leaks and stuff like that. do a compression test to and see what you get.

everything was TDC when you threw the distributer in? If its like the KA, its almost fool proof.

It seems like your timing is already close. After you reinstall the CAS, Bring the engine to operating temp, Let idle, shutoff engine, disconnect TPS, start engine, check idle, ADJ Idle 800+-50rpm, Rev above 3grand three times, check idle, If Idle is stable? Now you can adj the CAS to 15deg -+2deg then lock it down. GET an FSM to confirm
