I just wanted to make sure that when you pull the timing cover off. That you dont need to pull the head off either can it just slide right out? To me it seems like it can just slide out so if you had to service the chain or soething you can. thanks

What are you trying to do? If your replacing the chain The timing cover is the Oil Pump (If thats what your talking about)
Its been a couple of months since I broke my SR down
but when I broke mine apart I took the head off . But you might get away with removing the two oil pans and oil strainer and I think theres 2 bolts in the oil pan that hold the oil pump to the oil pan and theres two nuts in the front of the head that hold the oil pump to the head

i just tore my sr down last week. you need to pull both pans and the baffle plate and the pickup. then, undo the timing cover bolts (dont forget the 2 under the cam sprockets) then, it will pull right off. if you get it off without pulling the upper pan, good for you. but you wont be able to get it back on.

say good bye to the front of your head gasket, and take very very slow time doing it, Ive done it several times wtih the engine in the car, but its murder on the front of the HG if your not very very very careful...
Lower casting needs to come off too btw, lots of fun in the the car. FTL:cj:

How will it kill the head gasket I have a 3 layer metal one? Just wondering. Or are you talking about a stock head gasket?
Thanks for your info.
