Ive searched and read up on some similar problems ppl have wrote on the forums but still want some opinions... I drive a 92 coupe, dohc 5-speed, and I just noticed tonight that theres a strange noise coming from the front of the car as i depress the clutch and go to put my car into gear. not a high pitch whining or popping noise, but a noise similar to...the power antenna going up or down....that "type" of sound. And its not exactly hard to put it in gear, but i notice a noise that i didnt notice before today. It doesnt happen with the car in neutral, only when i press the clutch in, and try to put it into any gear. It just started snowing today but i doubt that has anything to do with it? Is it TO bearing issue? Im gonna go out and drive it up the road to see if i can diagnose it any further tonight, but please throw out some opinions...other than search. Thanks alot
one other thing i was having clutch issues before but it was the slave cylinder. i replaced that and the master, and everything has been fine since...

yes, it's the T.O. bearing based off of your info.

And, If it is the throw out bearing, how bad is this gonna be?

TO bearing replacement is normally done with a clutch job. If you can install a clutch... you can replace a TO bearing.
The FSM outlines the procedure.

damnit.... i really dont want to replace my whole clutch
"TO bearing replacement is normally done with a clutch job" .....but i can still go about just replacing the TO bearing without replacing the clutch right now?...hopefully, but ill update tomorrow

Yah, you don't have to do both. I just meant its as easy.. 'cuz.. you normally do it when you change your clutch.. 'cuz its right there.. when you chnage your clutch.

/\ Do you hear the humming noise when you're driving? If so then it could be your Pilot bearing based on what you're saying.

Noise.. if it goes away when you put in the clutch.. its your transmission input shaft bearing..
If it makes the noise when you push in the pedal.. TO bearing

thanks for the help...
Reasons today sucked balls:
Blizzard plus mad snow = me not being able to go pick up my s13 front end this morning.
Driving around real quick to get some estimates for the clutch job (bc im at school and need this shit done asap) hard as f'ck to shift, out of no where and then... it pretty much became impossible. Happened to be close enough to coast into a Midas and now thats where my car sits.
Good thing is im getting a new clutch put in tomorrow :coold:...but no more funds for my front end :bash: o well this is more important right now.

No. Transmission input shaft bearing is INSIDE the transmission casing.

That sounds very similar to an issue I had with my S14 back in 2003, where the "fork" that holds and pushes out the TO bearing had broken, and I only had use of first gear if I started the car in gear and powershifted to wherever I was going.

Transmission input shaft bearing INSIDE the transmission case...Is this an easy task of changing? What are the downs of not changing this since there is noise? Premature wear and tear??? And which bearing is it exactly? Anyone have a diagram of this? Thanks

The transmission input shaft bearing is NOT easy to replace.
You have to pull the casings apart, and have access to a hydraulic press to remove the input shaft since it is splined with the countershaft in such a way that you have to press the input and the countershaft bearing off at the same time by alternating 1/2" by 1/2".
trust me it's a PITA. I've rebuilt only one KA transmission in my lifetime, will never do it again.
I would either take the tranny to AAMCO to rebuild or just source out another used one from somewhere.
