I had a '92 240 with 350,000 Km on it, that was perfect for an SR swap, and I almost had enough saved up, when blam, stupidly I took out the front end. So I ended up spending that money on a '91 240, with 230,000Km I was fully intent on saving up for the SR swap again, but a thought crossed my mind.. Since I have an extra engine sitting around, why not just rebuild and turbo that?

Is a 350,000 KM (212,000Mi) engine worth putting a turbo on? I know I would have to do a rebuild. The engine was still running strong, did not leak oil, at least not before the accident, I don't think it is now either..

Is this a good idea considering the mileage??? And because its prob gonna need a rebuild, Is the cost gonna get out of hand, or should I still be able to do it under $5,000 Cdn ($3200 US)

you will not be able to re-build and turbo the motor for under $3000US. Unless your just over-hauling it, and not rebuilding it. but with that many miles, I would get the rods and crank blue-printed, etc.. and get some nice new forged pistons..

I think you could do it for ~5000US if you did the labor yourself.

$5000 CDN for Rebuild & Turbo..... that sounds about right..... give or take a few hundred depending on the quality of parts used.... In a situation like yours a SR swap seems more cost effective but bottom line.... SR's are used turbo motors.... if you rebuilt your KA it would be basically a brand new motor.. so its upto you....

Think it would actually have to be rebuilt?  I mean, the thing still runs good, I'm just figuring cause of the mileage...  think i could get away just with new pistons etc, or should we just open it up and decide from there??

Like chimp said you could just over haul it....
