View Full Version : Installed my Turbo Timer

Well.  I have asked every board I know of, twice, how to install a turbo timer.  So today, I took it upon myself to install it.
I would like to thank Camppain, and AOL SN: MysteryMeat for giving me scans of their FSM and helping me thru it by finding 2 wires going into the ECU (there are a hundred of them) and disconnecting the key lock solenoid.  All this through email and AIM.
Now, to the part you are here to read... performance numbers.  I am really dishearted by them.. but people need to hear.
This is a s14, AUTOMATIC, running stock everything and a t3/4 at 4.35 lbs boost.
GTech meter before the turbo:
0-60 in 8.98 seconds.
1/4 in 17.7 at 84.6mph
And HKS turbo timer type1 after the turbo:
0-60 in 7.02 seconds
60 foot time: 2.23 seconds
1/4 in 15.4 seconds.
I could not brake boost, as my rear brakes let go at 2500rpm, so I just took my foot off the brake and jammed the gas when it said to.  No launch at all.

Now I am thinking.  2.3 second drop from stock to turbo stock.  If I was running 15.9-16.2 with a 5 speed, it would be somewhere closer to 13.6-13.9.  So.  Auto-Manual, here I come!
Anyway... I really wanted to thank those 2, and announce my miserable times.  But they don't call it a slushbox for nothing.
-Jeff

BTW:  Camppain, if you're reading this, I didn't have to mess with the ignition wires.  Just the key lock solenoid you told me about.

that's pretty damn good if you ask me. stock everything as in air filter and exhaust too? i installed an apex auto turbo timer on my friend's 300zx, everything was going right, then a wire shorted. we didn't think unplugging the battery cables would do much since the turbo timer came with a harness, most of the wires just plugged right in. well, we went to test it out, and his driver side window won't roll down &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/butbut.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':but:'> looks like no matter what, i'll be uplugging the cables from now on.

manual is not always the fastest route.
for my winter project, i am converting manual to automatic. i have a 95 automatic so i am going to just change everything over and send the automatic out to LEVEL 10 for a full race setup.

BUT THIS IS JUST MY IDEA AND I MIGHT CHANGE MY MIND so it is not definite. i love drag racing so i want to go that route with the car. yet manual is so much fun

Nice times and good job but boosteds14 why swap a manual to auto i hate auto in my 240 and when i turbo my car a manual is going to kick the auto out.But that is just my .02 cents and imo.But whatever tickels your fancy.

In drag racing, the acceleration and speeds are too damn fast and the difference between 5-speed and automatic becomes really small. Basicly taking your foot off the gas to shift gears takes too much time and you lose more than if you just have an auto. iirc most professional drag cars are 3-speed autos...

I'd say those are very nice times for an auto and only 4.35psi. What are your impressions about the GTech meter? Is it worth buying? cuz i'm looking at getting it....

LEVEL 10 said they can make a full drag tranny for the 240sx, with my choice of gearing and 3speed or 4speed. plus there is consitancy that does not come with the manual. my friends supra has a LEVEL 10 tranny and at the line he can power brake it and use the translock and build up to 8psi at the line, his 60' are at a low of 1.5 and runs a 10.2 all day long. very consistent.

I've always heard the G-techs are off on 1/4 times. &nbsp; But they stay fairly consistant at being off. &nbsp; So they are ok to tune with, but don't really give you a realistic number.
