View Full Version : HELP!!! Weird noise when in reverse
There's a grinding noise heard from the rear end every once per tyre rotation .Moreover it feels like the rear brake is gripping when the noise is heard. The noise only can be heard when in reversing. Is it because there is a patch of rust somewhere on the rear bearing or other brake components?Coz my rear rotor seems fine n free of rust...Or is it my pads? from what i can saw my pads are new and still thick.

siezed caliper? if you drive down the block or so, are any of the wheels noticabley hotter than the others? if so, that wheel has a sized caliper
or a dust sheild could have gotten bent and is contacting the rotor
or are your wheels all on tight? it will make a clunk noise if a wheel is on loose
just guessing
yes,my wheels are all tight (i just had my alignment n wheel balancing done less than a mth ago) and i saw the guys tight all 4 up nicely...and i just bought 2nd hand rebuilt calipers for both rears last september...

Warped rotors?
If it was a seized caliper wouldn't the noise be constant?

weird, my friend has this SAME problem. Exact same. It's weird, his brakes and rotors and calipers are fine. If it was a caliper, it would be constant. We are thinking bearings.

check your pads and rotors in the rear, its usually the tell tale sign that its time to replace either of the two.
My pads and caliper are fine....but nt sure about my rotor though...how to check if my rotor are warped? btw the noise are worst when cold and it sometimes dissapear when hot or after journeys...i'm not sure about the diff, mine is an 89 model n should be an open one then...

mine "grabs" as well every once in a while when reversing, i think its a caliper problem, the ebrake cable on taht side sometimes sticks, i need to take it apart and fix it

i have the same problem...
at first i thought it was my diff...
but then i notice that if i brake or pull the ebrakes while on reverse ...it goes away

the problem is most likely the caliper pins in the bridge, mine did the same thing and when i checked it out the pins wore out over time and were causing them to rattle or catch sometimes or sound like grinding but it would only do it in reverse, so i replaced the calipers and the noise went away
