View Full Version : Is this normal for a 5 speed?

I just test drove my first 240sx (s13 fastback) which was a 5 speed. It was also the first time I had ever driven a 5 speed. Well, when I started it up and the car was idle, the shifter was in neutral and it was vibrating around quite a bit, almost like it was loose. Now the car has 150,000 miles on it. Do all 5 speed cars do this or was this just a really beat up 5 speed?
Thanks!

was it just the knobe?....it could've been that the shifter assembly was loose...thats easy to fix....just like adding a new shifter but all you do is tighten the bolts <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

It was the actual "stick," so the knob vibrates because it is attached to the stick.
I may pass this car up too. Besides the fact that the dealer wants way way way too much: the car has rsut on the spoiler so it is leaking the hatch, there were a few interior squeaks, a faint cigarette smell, minor backfiring, and then the shifter.

It's probably just the shifter bushing. You can pretty much expect it.

Mine moves around like fucking crazy in fifth sometimes? is it just a worn out bushing? will putting in a short shifter help? (#### the throws are long anyways)
Could be the tension spring if the stick wobbles around
as much as mine did. You will need to take off the exhaust heat shield to get to it. If not its probably just
old bushes.
it has to do with the tranny being rear wheel drive, or some thing like that, i asked a few buddies of mine when i first got it because it was a concern of mine, but they all do it, so dont worry...
