These are my posts from another forum... sorry for the link in the last thread, just trying to avoid reposting pics...

So I bought a car with a mystery motor... Pretty cheap... Big turbo, please note the guy I was buying this from knew literally nothing about the car, it was a test drive and buy situation... Greddy FMIC, MR exhaust manifold, sewer pipe intake, JIC coilovers, cusco carbon strut bars... The seller claimed it was built as a 2.2 by the owner before him, head work, etc. The car is very fast, much faster than my previous s13 (sr20/HKS gt2540 .86AR/both manifolds/FMIC). The car was rusted through in lots and lots and lots of places... SCARY to drive hard... Busts out Dyno chart showing 375rwhp... $ exchanges hands, i bring it home... Where to start...
As i'm pulling off the valve cover, i notice only 2 of the coil packs are bolted down... man, i bet it pulls HARD with em nice and tight i'm thinking to myself...
I pull of the valve cover, tomei cam gears, , upon further inspection, HKS cams, I could not find any other intelligible writing on the cams, I will rotate the crank tomorrow and see if the grind is marked... to top it off, crower retainers, and the valve springs look like they are made from larger diameter material, but I don't have a stock spring to check... They are not double springs...
Suddenly the story is getting more believeable, I still don't know what turbo is on the car though... maybe you guys can help, the markings on the compressor are ec1 m24.... thats it... i don't want to pull out the turbo yet, everything is going in another car soon, so I'll be able to see teh turbine then... in the next post i'll attach the turbo with a credit card fro size reference... Thanks in advance for any help comments or questions...

God it feels good to be behind a sr20 again...
Loudbay256
No, I have no idea why they printed him a mph dyno graph, but its a 3rd gear pull obviously and shifting around 95 seems like 7k or so, I haven't driven a sr20 in almost 2 years now, so you guys can correct me if i'm off by too much... here's a few more pics...

it has a 5 bolt exhaust housing just like the t25/28 stuff fwiw... Thanks for any help iding that bad boy...

does anyone have 2.2 dyno charts to compare, advice on how to tell if its for real, I know the answer to this question is take the heads off, or drop the pan, but i don't want too, unless i need to, the car will be disassembled soon enough, and I can check then. It does have a visible new looking metal headgasket... maybe one of you know the builder of the car, it came form minnesnowta... and it shows... right through the body...

Ha i just noticed in the pics that it does say A/R .70 maybe that helps... I'll be searching again... tia...

so messing around on their site, the only one that looks like the right a/r and compressor inlet outlet sizes is the gt2876r. rated at 350. It seems that dyno number of 373 on a relatively untuned engine (afc2) are pretty good for this turbo, could this be evidence toward the 2.2L ???
off to search more...
db
edit: my first search showed this is the gt25/40R, which is curious, bc i had the hks 2540 on my last sr20, and while it may have been a little different bc of hks branding, it didn't look quite this big, and i don't remember the ar on the old turbo...
ok, found two models
turbine .86A/R or .64A/R 440 or 380 rated hp respectively... That sounds more like my dyno graph... ok... now how can i tell if it's really a 2.2 other than opening it up... i could run it next to my old car, if the guy answers his phone and see if it sounds way different... hmm any ideas???
nah, running car, but the body and 'frame' rails are rusted through in many places... luckily, my wife got me a 89 for my bday and its just been sitting til now. I just have to determine which is the donor car now... ha
reread the post, i drove it around and home... scary, bendy, twisty, fast, loose, holey, 240...
definitely a gt2876r... have to wait to find out if .64 ir .86A/R exhaust housing, judging by the lag, its the .86, but i don't know for sure...
if anyone sees this, i'm looking for whiteline sways, apex powerfc late model s13 blacktop, rear over fenders (20 or 30mm only), front usdm front over fenders (20mm), z32 alum calipers, hmmm.... what else... Greddy intake manifold... suggestions welcome here too...
oil pan, remote filter, oil cooler...

Please don't close my thread, i'd really like some feedback, and we can't post any big pics here... PLZ n TY

So... you.... expect us...
to be... able to....
decipher.... all that.....

..gibberish....

I got a headache trying to read that. What exactly is your question? Are you asking if you have a 2.2 litre? Open it up and find out. As far as pictures go, use www.imageshack.us to host them.

why dont you call the person you got it from idiot

You're the idiot if you think that i haven't asked the person I got it from. He's the 2nd owner AFTER the builder... The seller was virtually useless as far as information regarding the car. Thanks for thinking that one through for me.

just a thought but why dont you ask the seller who he bought it from and contact him. just a thought

Ok why didnt he just post a picture or tell us what the turbo says on it and ask "What turbo is this, it says blah blah blah..........". So I gues my question is to him how come we need a life story to tell him what kind of turbo he has?:fawk2:

So, let me get this straight ... You bought a car with a motor that has work done to it, from a guy who knows nothing about it, and now your asking us how much displacement it has..

Sound right?

Well, uh.... If you bought the car w/o any info .. your generally gonna be screwed unless you open it up and look. There isn't really a way to tell if its stroked out or not w/o looking, but if you have to ask us .. your probably not ready for that motor anyways.

God its funny all the these posts. If you can get ya hands on a depth gauge/vernier of at least 300mm + check difference in piston at tdc and at bdc use top of head with rocker cover removed (flat area around spark plug hole) that how i found my motor stroked without opening a bueatiful motor by the people who know best.....japanese motor builders. Hope this helps.

^It might have helped if this thread wasn't over two years old.

I appreciate you trying to help, kiwi, but you need to pay attention to post dates.

No one cares about this guy that posted back in 2006. Especially when he couldn't form proper sentance structure in order to phrase his question.
