Hey guys, I just rebuilt the head, and the FSM said torque it down to 48-61ft/lbs. So I did 60. Ended up stripping the threads in the head. Great.

I was thinking of a few options:

a. JB Weld, Weld the hole, i'll never remove it. I just rebuilt virtually the entire motor. If anything, i'll get a new engine

b. Helicoil, this would probably be the best option. if I do this, I don't wanna remove the head again. Is it possible w/o removing the head? I don't wanna buy another HG.

c. Buy a longer bolt. I'm going to have to check out a few places, but I have a good feeling I can get a longer bolt so I can thread it in further, utilizing the threads in the back.

I would prefer to do C. My questions are:
1. What pitch, size, thread is the bolt?
2. I'm probably going to go in a little bit further (1/2") than the threads available in the head. What's back there? How close do the intake/exhaust ports go? Does anyone have a diagram?

I would pick option b personally.

For the future... remember that stuff threading into the head is threading into Aluminum, its soft, If you have a range of torque... stay in the middle.

option B

I agree with your reasoning for option A, but then again, I've been burned by helicoils and have put together a buddies wrecked GSXR1000 engine case with JB Weld before :) Let us know if the helicoil goes smoothly ~

I will go with the helicoil setup BUT will epoxy the insert.
That is not a common bolt, is a part where the idler sprocket runs

helicoil went fine. threads stick out just a little bit, but nothing to be concerned with. motors gone 5k miles with 0 problems.

just find another source engine at the junk yard and pull the parts....

i hate people who don't read the whole post...problem has been solved.

i torqued it to the middle setting, around 5x. helicoil makes the threads stronger, so if it's not helicoiled, i'd probably do the lowest setting. lol

helicoil comes out sometimes just for ur info....
