I put my motor together in August, and I couldnt originally get it to start so I looked at my old motor to see if the cams were correct. I think I got them on correctly, but the car hasnt run right since. The compression comes out to 110 across the board, and I poured oil down each cylinder to see if its the rings. It helped to bring them up to about 130ish, but I poured maybe 3 cap fulls in. The car wont idle cold, and barely when warm. I cant really check the timing since the motor wont keep a steady idle. but I do know that I have to run the dizzy a little retarded compared to where I did with the old motor. Theres not any noticeable tapping, but the car runs horribly low end, and only slightly better up top. It starts smoking at around 6k, so Ive been leaning towards bad rings... Just wanted to see if the cam could be off and run like mine does now. I do know that this motor checked out to 185 across the board, in my old car... but sat around for nearly a year in my freinds basement.

Cliff Notes- Car barely runs horribly, could one cam be off a tooth and explain my problems.

Line marks up zero on crank (red and the pin)..both pin marks straight up (with the engine not level)...and the distrib bottom right with the bolts as clse to middle as possible. (the car will attempt to run up to about 30* off and don't ask how I know)

Well I know the distributor is correct...I put the motor at TDC, and put the distributor in with the rotor button pointing at #1. The motors in the car... so I may try to just take pictures with the valve cover off, and set the motor at TDC.

The car will sound like a V8 if acam is one tooth off. it'll run, but crappy.

Well my exhaust tone did change a bit, but not crazy. Ill try to get pictures tommorrow of the cams at TDC.

The motor doenst sound bad as in noises... only thing you hear under the hood are the injectors. The exhaust tone just sounds sort of less resonated...more raspy.

Not bad as inb something is broken. Bad as in it isn;t set up right.
