so, I'm rebuilding my engine and in the process I've redone the seats (2 angle valve job- 45 and 30 degree angles) and I refinished the valves. I took about .006 off the valves + whatever I took off the seat so the valve is definately going to sit higher. so this means that I'll need smaller shims to compensate. However, shims are like 8-12 a piece X 16 shims LOL and that's if I order the right size shim. I'm thinking that maybe I can get away w/ my stock shims IF I grind the valve tip exactly how I need it. What do u guys think? Any way of getting around spending all that $ on fucking shims? this was supposed to be a budget rebuild till I found about how much those cost.

just check ur clearence u might now even need shims..
and doing ti right is better than doing it wrong... you spent all this time and effort rebuilding just to cheap out on shims...

Do a mock install and check if your lifter still has movment, and make sure they are level, when we do radius cuts on the NA touring motors we cut the shims slightly to make sure the rocker is paralel (excuse spelling) to the cam and if need be remove tiny amounts off to make up for valves sitting a bit high, I made a surface grinder to do this, was pretty simple, just make sure you dont grind to much off because it will cause lots of problems.

seat the shims u got now. check clearences and see how many yu ned to order of what size. don;t cheap out. when rocker amrs start flying out of palce, breaking inside and socoring the life out of your cams you will cry my friend.

I don't have rocker arms; the cam touches the bucket tappet directly and the bucket tappet sits over the valve.
