I just wanted to know, if there is any big difference between the S13 SR Blacktop and the Redtop?

Also, between the S13 Blacktop and the S14 Blacktop...which one is a better engine to go with?

No difference but go w/ the black top b/c it is most likely newer.

Isnt there a diff b/w the the S13 blacktop and S14 blactop. The S14 has more horse, and I think a ball bearing turbo. Look at Heavy Throttle (http://www.srswap.com) somewhere in that site it should give specifics about the engines.

The s14 blacktop also has variable valve timing and bigger turbo.

so is it better to go with the S14 rather than the S13?

OK the biggest difference between the S13 red top and the S13 Black top it the S13 Blacktop has a black top. hehe!

Other than that the Two are identical The S13 Blacktop is different than the S14 blacktop in just a few ways. The S13 BT still has a T25 Turbine the 14 has the T28. The 14 BT does have the VVT but it is very mild. Then there is the HP difference. Which one is better? Well I own both and the 14 (well my 13 is a redtop but like I said they are identical except color) is a much better engine all around.

the biggest difference if you are putting the motor in a US S13 is A/C. On a red top you can bolt the KA compressor on by 2 of the 4 bolts.

In my case i got a black top and have to use the SR compressor and make custom lines for the a/c

so if I go with the S-14 blacktop, can I use my KA copmressor to have A/C.

BTW, this would be going into a S-14.

there is one thing not mentioned yet, the red-tops have high-ports and blacktops are lowports, this means you will have a little advantage when upgradeing a redtop over a blacktop becasue there is more room to get that higher hp.

I know Wayne is trying to get a S14 in a S14 a/c to work right now. I don't know if anyone has done it.

As far as higher ports are you talking about a S13 black top or a S14(they all have black tops).

Both s13 blacktops and redtops have a lowport design. S14 & s15 motors have highport. Nothing has been proven as to which is better. Only educated guesses.

To add a little more to the mix.

You can tell the difference between an older s13 blacktop and newer s13blacktop by looking at the front of the head. The newerones will have little fins on the front. This indicates that these heads were made from different casts. Maybe there are some internal differences also. Maybe not.

Now if you buy an s14motor, put another turbo and cams you completly negate the positives of having an s14 SR as opposed to an S13. A lot of people say that the price of buying an s13 + turbo + cams will cost less than an s14 motor. Take that for what you will.

i got to make a correction:

s13 red NA black top = highport heads

s14 all and up (s15) = low port

the only diff i see is that the s14 front clips cost 1000 more dollars than the s13. if your going with a front clip that is.
when i do get around to it, i think ill hit the s13 blacktop

Once I get my FMIC I will race civickilla and give you the difference. And Foxcolt is correct in the fact if you plan to upgrade your turbo then the money you save by getting the redtop will pay dividends. I have a redtop and I love it. Anyway its your money and either one you get you won't be sorry.

Yea same Wayne.

From what I know motors do seem to be short here in SoCali. I was lucky to get mine when I did.
