so here it is i got a 97 S14, and it supposidily had a set of 91 cams in the trunk (from reasearching 91 cams are 240/248) the stock S14s are 232/232 so i have two questions after reasearching this on multiple forums for a few days and i know someone here know a definate answer:

1. are these in fact 240/248 cams:

and i have heard that the intake (240) is green stripe and the exhaust (248) is orange stripe. but i also heard that sometimes the stripes are switched. and for sure on the S14 the colors are switched. so if i would go from 232(orange)/232(green) to 248(Orange)/240(green).

2. I am looking to keep mid range, i have heard good things about the 248/240 and the 248/232 setups. anyone tried both of these? i have heard that the 248/248 cuts out alot of low but boosts the high and that these combos are alot better if you want to keeps the low but builds the mid and high.

any answers are welcome, but i am trying to make this a definative thread.

We need a pic of the FRONT of the cam, directly looking at each gear.

S13 cams (240/248) are ORANGE on the exhaust, and GREEN on the intake...as you know. S14 is opposite.

...

Now, how do you know which is which?

The dowel pin.

The intake cam has the dowel lined up with the number 1 cam lobe.

...i.e. if you lay the cam down with the #1 lobe facing directly UP (12 o'clock), the dowel pin will be in the 12 o'clock position as well.

So...if you have an intake cam with a green stripe...you have S13 cams.

Easy stuff.
