just wondering if anyone knows if you shoot a certain color of fire out the back exhaust... does it mean lean or rich? i always thought it was the color of smoke... or is fire, just fire?

my friend who drives behind me says i have blue flames.... he has redish orange flames when i am behind him....

i am runnign stock sr20det, with a boost controller set at .65 bar, with basic bolt ons. let me know if you guys know anything... thanks!!! tryin to get wideband asap, but still not able to get one yet...

it means you are running rich, because unburt fuel is being dumped into your exhaust, which can get quite hot, and sometimes its hot enough to ignite the unburt gas, and causes a fireball out your muffler

well, i knwo that... it usually happens when i am right off the gas... it doens't happen when i am on the gas... only right when i let go... i am just wondering about the color...

if it isn't mixture, you think it might be octane? i am sure it isn't super bad, the car runs great... just interested in color reasons...

have a straight exhaust? gutted cat? leaks? this all could be the reason why you have fire pops.

I used to get a mix of white/blue/orange/red. I was running incredibly rich though.

Doesn;t a blue flame mean burning oil? My car backfires and when I was running synthetic, it would burn blue since synthetic was being burned. Went away as soon as i switched back to convetional and it's an orange color once more.

A flame's color corresponds to it's oxygen content. A blue flame contains more oxygen than reddish/orange flame.

So, if you're popping out Paul Walker style fireballs you have ass loads of unburnt fuel that you're shooting out your exhaust.

Too fast...too furious!!!

It can also indicate what's fueling the flame. For example, different elements cause flames to change color from blue, to green, to a normal orange to even a blinding orange color.

okay, i am runnign synthetic blend, which might be the blue? hahaha, my friend says, i have abotu 4 inch fire shooting out... hahahahah.... i have elbow, 3" down, 3" super duper high flow cat, 4" exhaust.... so the flames might be bigger then normal? anwyays, i hope ti is just teh lean fuel that is burning.. not that my car is lean... if i sell my hood and my diff's i will buy my wideband...

how can i tell if oil is burning? there will be oil on the back bumper right?

or smoke riht? black for oil, white for coolant? damn, my car is black too, so i can see alto of soot....

Blue smoke for oil, no?

HAHAHA

yeah, blue smoke means your burning oil. If you have blue smoke out coming out of the exhaust, could be a turbo seal going bad which isn't good.

White/grayish smoke is coolant.

If your car is shooting fireballs only when you let off of the gas, your decell setting sound off depending how bad it is.

I haven't seen my car backfire myself, but from what I heard when people drive behind me it's pretty bad. Sounds like a 12guage shotgun being let off and exstends for about four feet from the back of my car.

But I don't know how true that is.

Both ways I need to fix that problem before I damage my turbo badly.

your not hurting the turbo by backfiring and popping flames.

My S13 w/ sr shoots orange/red flames all the time when I'm roadracing. I'll put on 100miles each time at the track...no problems yet after over a year. It's really f'n loud though when it pops.

oooo, 2jzgte, how much boost are you running? i kinda consider myself more or less stockish... i think that is why i am not too loud...
