Well i just purchased a coupe, when i bought it i checked to make sure the vins matched the pink slip. I checked the Door and on the firewall, they matched. So i towed the coupe home, and just the other day i see that the dash vin doenst match the other vins.

The previous owner changed the dash and didnt swap the vins, so i was wondering if i can have a new vin made which to me sounds highly illegal. I donno what to do about it because if i get a ticket or something and the vin doenst match to whats registered for the license plate they will tow my car. :duh:

I drilled mine out
But I haven't got pulled over yet.
When they ask, I'd tell them that the dash is swapped and came without vin. and pop your hood to show them the firewall VIN.

Unless you're in CA, cuz they give tickets for anything there and if you got a swap - you're fukked.

Yep im in Cali, dont have a swap. But still if they see may car parked and it doesnt have a Vin # then they think the car is stolen, so they will tow it. What i was thinking was to take the old one as an example to a machine shop and see if they could make one that has my Vin number on it, but i donno it feels kinda illegal since im messing with the Vehicle Identificaltion Number.

yah take it out, or you can have it taken to the Highway Patrol and get it writen off, it will be noted on your door tag.

i doubt they will tow your car. I wouldn't worry about it as long as the car really isn't stollen. People swap dashes all the time with no worries.

If you're that paranoid, just put a sticker or a piece of paper in the window(like a garage parking slip) to hide it. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

BTW- you will get into DEEP SHIT if caught MAKING a vin. Why risk it when your not really in the wrong to start with(providing car is legit)

I called the DMV they told me that i have to go to the DMV to get some kind of paper work, then from there they will direct me to the nearest CHP office.

Lol but the car aint running so i guess i have to wait til i fix it.
