rain rain go away

ok. the other day i was cruis'n though decatur, IL. Decatur is an industrial town thus the roads are very dirty. as i was say'n, i was cruis'n the town, it was raining, and out of no where a grinding sound started in the rear my first thought "dirty road, probly sand in the brakes." so i pull in to hardee's and check it out, my brakes are dry. so then i started wondering is this sound coming from my diff:bite: ...?????? please help i can't afford to have my car in a shop for a few days and oh it still does now that i'm home on cleaner roads but it's still raining.
any ideas...

it could be your actual brake pads, even if they are dry it would make that sound if ur pads are totally worn down

Same thing happened to me.

i know the rotors are warped a teeny bit but this has never happend before. i haven't had time to get under my car here recently to look but is there a rubber plug on the diff maybe it's got a leak and water got in, i duno...

naw, i doubt water would seep in the diff.... if its an open diff, run that btch on water anyways hahah

this morning i woke up an it was gone, the noise had silenced, i was freack'n ecstatic. but on the way to class, interstate drive, it came back and it was horribly louder, so i put it on a lift and got under neath but theres noting, i had it running in the air and everything i can't finger this out, even my teacher is scratcing his head(he's heard the noise and he tinks its the diff.)

if it is the diff and u have an auto calss by a open one from any junk yard,there like $40 get it welded and put it in....should only take about 2 hours to swap....you could actually probably get it done in ur class.
