Brake Help

i saw no FAQ about brakes so here it goes
ok im in some serious need for rotors and pads, fronts are like 50% down but the rear doest even make the rank, rotors are destroyed and pads had to be done for some time (i got the car not to long ago but never got around to inspecting those)
what brake pad/rotor combo would you recommend
it's a 1990 240sx 4lug that will be turboed witin probly a week or two
i really dont have money to spend for an upgrade right now,, so i was thinking some brembo rotos wits axxis pads, but im very open for suggestions as i dont know much about brakes

Don't gimp out and start powering up the car without proper working brakes/acc.

Make sure everything is peachy keen before you start, cuz if you don't, it'll snow ball like hell and give you way more trouble in the future. Get it done now, get it done right.

Run Altima rotors, with Maxima calipers. IIRC, that should be the same as a 180 brake 'upgrade' good, brakefade resistant.

thanks, altimas up to 99 were 4 lug, how about maximas? is any special wheel offset necessary?

No wheel change necessary I had that setup behind my stock aluminum wheels...provides a noticeable difference in fade resistance I am running brembo blanks with Hawk HP+ pads they are great...also if you go 5 lug you want the maxima rotors.

does maxima calipers fit for the rear on s13?

no this is a front mod only

the type X and a few other models from Rappon had a larger front caliper (rears were the same) it is an 89-95ish maxima caliper and a larger disk which comes either from an altema or maxima depending on if it is 4 or 5 lug

The q45 fronts fit behind the stock steelies also.

Sentra Spec V brembos are 4 lug already, if scrounge those up and search for the write-up

also, if you don't mind some re-drilling, likely the best setup is:
300zx front + s14 rear; according to a couple of the bright tech guys that's near stock bias with larger rotors for better cooling

Of course, this is all moot. Forget the power, spend money on some new rotors (don't waste your time with slotted or dimpled or X-drilled, blanks are far cheaper and better), some better pads (Porterfield R4-S for bang for the buck), SS lines, better fluid...and of course

If you actually want to stop better, get better tires.

ok, so i found silvia front brakes for sale (calipers/rotors), would i be better off with those or the q45s?

If you don't have money, just run Brembo discs and Hawk HPS all around. Don't bother upgrading your calipers unless they need to be replaced.

I run the JDM 180SX front setup. It's the equivalent of mid-90s Maxima front calipers and pads, and mid-90s Altima discs. If you go 5-lug you can use Maxima discs. It fits under the stock steel wheels. No additional offset necessary.
