hey everyone, I just finished my new setup on my ka..

old setup -
sohc
dsm 450's
.48 .60 t3
safc
10 lbs

new setup
dohc
holset h1c
52 lb injectors
safc

I'm running a wideband on it too to monitor. On the new setup I'm running 25 btdc timing for 10 pounds of boost.

My tune is doing great and when I put the pedal to the floor it feels great.... untill 10lbs.

when I floor it, up untill 8 lbs of boost it pulls hard, but when the boost and rpms go up, it all goes bad... the car sputters a bunch and pops a bit. the wideband goes from about 12:1 to 20:1 and it just freaks out. I'm running the stock maf... could I be maxing it out? Any other suggestions?

more than likely you are maxing out your stock maf

yes its def. the maf maxing out, grab a z32 maf and retune for it and your good. actually since you've got the safc just use the compensation feature and just put the new maf in.

how much did you get the holset turbo for? which mani are you using? when does it spool?

i actually scored the h1c brand new for 300 shipped from some guy on homemadeturbo.com...

I'm running a shitty jgs "make your own" mani....

it spools like 3.5 ish? i swapped to dohc so my only tach is on my safc, but I's somewhere right around there.. for how damn huge it is it spools pretty fast, and then if i don't want to be in boost and just cruise it's perfect

they're most efficient at 20-25 lbs and thats what i was planning on running but i blew my built motor so I'm restricted to what I can do now with this stocker replacement.:duh:

I don't really want to drop 150 on a maf... would a n60 solve my problems?

Very well could be the maf....that timming sounds very high, 18-20 btdc...look on ka-t.org.

i was under the impression 20 btdc is stock on the dohc. so then after that, .5 degrees for every pound - at 10 pounds that's 25 btdc right?

Check voltage at the ECU and also check the fuel pump voltage both tend to fall off in the upper rpm ranges....

you want to retard not advance timming. thats probably why your runnin lean up top if not other things. do you hear it pinging?

And are you running a stock fuel pump?

timing is retarded and it's a walbro 255 pump. I can check my voltage at the ecu and pump in a bit.

*I just took it for another drive................

it comes earlier and earlier in each gear up to 3rd... no 4th rippers for me...

it feels like the car is rolling its tounge... "b rrrrrrrrrrrrr at!!!"

I don't think its the maf because i watched the airflow and the max it hit was 62%

wtf

Stock injectors or sr370s, what is your injector duty%?

MAFS and possibly spark. run less gap

imo your timing is way to advanced for your setup. return it to stock (20) and let us know what happens.

i don't know the duty cycle.. but 52's should hold to 300 hp ish, so I'm not worried about that.

the timing is RETARDED 5 degrees more.. not advanced....

what I was just thinking is that the wiring for the fuel pump needs some loving.. isn't it a 240 thing at high rpm/boost for them to run low on voltage?

There a good post in ka-t.org under installs about the fuel pump wiring.....did you check all the little things like clamps, vacuum lines and all that ish?

If you got access to a known good distributor try swapping that also, they also cause this sort of problem...

I'll say it once more. MAFS and check your plug gaps!
10psi is a bit much for retarding base timing to handle.

try a hacked MAFS if you're a cheap ass.
