i tried searching but couldnt find anything much or was just confused. but im planning to run my s14sr with no maf. what the best (possibly the cheapest) way to go about doing this. i also have the power fc but NOT the the d-jetro version, just the regular one. i just needed to know what exactly i need, ex. MAP sensor and what not.

Just run it off throttle position/rpm lamda spec and retune it every day before you drive it.

bam, free no maf mod.

search around for the aem ems stand alone with the map sensor...

AEM = worst ecu on the planet.

1800$ for megasquirt spec batch fire is lame balls.

PowerFC D-Jetro if you want it cheap, Motec M4 if you're baller.

MAF is a great tool, but by design has odd limitations and lag times depending on length and volume of your piping.

The MAF vs MAP discussion is neither here nor there, i assume you have made up your mind and want to jump into MAP.. We have TONS of experience running the SR off of a MAP sensor, and i could not suggest a better solution for oh so many problems, rarely will you ever run more than 28psi, and if you do, i have 4 and 5 bar map sensor's stocked and ready to go.

A MAP sensor setup needs the MAP sensor for pressure and a AIR temp sensor for Load Concept. A computer configured to balance the two readings will then interpret real time load to the ECU. Because of this fact, and MAP sensor cannot just be "Switched out" with a MAF.

-------------------------------------------------------

So... here are the options.

Power FC d-jetro. A good tool, and the djetro is definitely an upgrade in terms of tune-ability when compared to the maf variant. The only issue here is that you are still tuning on a nintendo controller, you have no extra external inputs, and effective data logging is almost non existent.

You cannot run no maf w/the standard power FC, because it will error, and go to safety. (ie: 3000rpm cut)

HKS VPC: Neat box, great idea, a bitch to find (discontinued), and an even larger to tune. Each VPC unit has a specific chip designed around a certain turbo/ boost, Engine and Fuel injector. NOBODY stateside tunes these (XS Engineering were the last and that was YEARS ago). HKS will sell you the air temp sensor and harness, but they are permanently out of stock on the MAP, and i have not found a good cross reference part for the DENSO map sensor used in the kit. Voltage output is similar, but not the same as the GM 3 bar.

AEM: A better tool than the last two, but a toy none the less, and an expensive one at that. With its specific chassis molding, the resell value on these have been suprisingly low, deeming this a bad investment in my book.

HALTECH: All that we use now. The haltech is less than a similarly setup AEM, with the power of being a universal unit. You can wire it up flying lead (custom harness), or you can buy through me for the SR/Haltech Patch harness we helped produce. We use the haltech DAILY, have base maps for about 20 setups, and can custom build a base map over email, if we know your injectors, and turbo etc etc . It utilizes any TPS, MAP, and wideband, or you can use all the Stock, or haltech equipment. If you want a haltech on a nissan, I am now the man to talk to.

Motech: What can i say, isn't this close to the gold standard in EMS systems, usually double to triple the price of haltech etc, it rocks socks, but i regularly see the motech team out at track events keeping racers cars in tune (prof teams), because even the teams cant seem to get a hang on the unit. This has always steered me clear, i like to be able to tune what i have, without calling tech support out at $250 an hour to help me. Like McRussellPants said, if you have the cash, go for the motech.

If you need any more help, feel free to touch base with me.

All Haltech ECUs can be setup with MAP sensors

so if your gonna run say the haltech e6x or the e8, how do you make in control things like a/c? i know it has the a/c output option but what about the input. also what do you do with the tach, speedo?

The head: Of course they can! ( i think you allready knew this)

SeanC: It is more than possible to wire up the A/C system and Speedo and Tach using a "flying lead harness" and your oem AC equipment. But the much easier solution is to utilize our patch harness, which will connect your AC and Accesories. You will have fully functional guages with no headaches.

John you beat me on that last post...I have a haltech currently (E6X) and have had several friends with drag DSMs that ran E6Ks back in the day...

Hey John how much would you charge for base map developement once I get my new turbo and cams done this winter? I have my idle and part throttle setup ok right now but far from perfect and a good jump off after I put all my new parts on this winter may be a great spring board for next season PM me when you have a moment

Hey man, its steve, I handle most of the clandestine map development.

If you need to inquire I can build you a custom tailored map for your specifications, the fuel map will need some smoothing to best match yoursetup but the timing maps I have been cranking out for the sr20det have been insane.

Hit me up on PM or email [email protected]

why not put the maf element into your intercooler piping.

Another cheap way to run it is emanage ultimate with map sensor.
