alright... i finally managed to buy a timing light and tried to correct it, but it ended up being alot worse.:hammer: it hesitates when i give it WOT and wont boost right. i downloaded a fsm and followed the directions exactly from www.camel-towing.com

here is what i did:

1.warm up motor to operational temp.
2.i rev'ed the motor for about 2 minutes @ around 2000 rpm's
3.let it idle for 1 minute
4.turned off motor and disconnected the tps.
5.turned it back on and raced teh motor to 2000 rpm's two or three times
6.checked teh timing(clamp is at teh loop in the back/car is idling @ around 800 rpm's)
7.timing was way to the right of the last timing mark on the crank pulley so i correct it by moving the CAS and set it at the second mark from the right(15+-2 degrees btdc)
8.tightened the bolt on the CAS
9. turned car off and reconnected the TPS
10.turned car back on and went for a test drive.(car is very laggy, will not boost properly)

i dont understand what is goin on... please correct me if i missed or messed up on something.

thank you
Anthony

Give us some background on your car. Was it having these problems before you did any work? What kind of work did you do and why?

Does this problem happen under the same conditions every time? How is your idle.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head, as far as timing is concerned, is that your mechanical timing is off.

i took it to a friend of a friend of a friend of mine today. looked at the timing, said it was where it was supposed to be at, adjusted it, and presto!!! its running like a champ again. im clueless as to why he adjusted it after he said it was where it was supposed to be.

all in all.. its running like normal but it idles like crap. pretty steady idle but it shakes alot. a lil softer than how it feels when the car is about to stall.

the car was running perfectly when i was back in houston. it started to shake alot at idle when i came to california a few months ago and teh tranny started to make a wierd noise when i got here too. im thinking it might be my pilot bushing.. i dunno.

i decided to check my timing because the car was it was running rich and felt kinda sluggish, kinda like when it was off timing. so i checked it and noticed it was off, so i adjusted it and it started to be that way.

Sounds like you got more than one thing going on here.

If your timing is set correctly it should hold at 850 rpm, give or take 50 rpm.

As far as the hard shaking and maybe the noise from the transmission are concerned I'm guessing your motor/tranny mounts are worn.

Sounds like you already got it fixed. If the shaking bothers you, keep playing with the timing. I had a similar thing with my KA where it was sluggish. Timing was off and I corrected to spec but then the engine shook at idle... Just kept playing with it making minor adjustments until the shaking went away and now it's running great. HTH, GL man.

Have you checked out your plugs recently?
