View Full Version : JDm cluster and losing mileage??

I was just curious as I heard that with a jdm cluster reading the odo in Kilometer instead of Miles (as per US) that for some reason, you end up losing mileage (or, if say mapquest says its 1mile miles to a location that should work out to about 0.602km, but the cluster reads either higher or lower). I tried to do a test to figure it out, but, unless you know the EXACT mileage to present parking spot to the one your heading to, there isnt really an accurate and EXACT way to see if this is true (as there is going to a discrepancy of less than 0.15 miles or whatever the # in some cases)

So, my questions are. Do yo actually lose mileage based on the cluster?? And, if so, how is that so if both cars should have the odometer sensor in the tranny and it wouldnt matter as the wheels (or gears) are travelling the same distance regarless and should read correctly??

Thanks, Chris

no you dont loose acutal milage based on the odometer... mileage (or haha "kilometerage"?)is the same, the cluster just reads out more kilometers then it would if it where in miles

if your question is about your gas milage or someting..

kilometers traveled X .62 = Miles Traveled
kilos traveled x .62 / 12 (gallons per tank) = mpg
every one kpg = .62 mpg

thats why european car mags post 0-100kph times then sometimes have (0-62mph) written after it

say you got 480 kilometers from one tank of gas.. thatd be around 300 miles per tank or roughly 25mpg

if you actually have a kilometer guaged car in the u.s. or wherever miles are used.. that can be re-calibrated... ls automotive sells mph converted 180kph speedos... its not hard, just involves messing around with the gearing in the gauges, search because theres a write up somewhere

while you change the speedo, calculating the odometer readout to miles then having the odometer "rolled back" to miles would solve your problem..
that probalby wouldnt be legal and im no expert so research it

Thanks for the informative response;)

No gas mileage question as that is just based off mileage (or km travelled). no biggie :D
