I bought an s14 with kyb agx's and rsr race springs. It was way too stiff for me so i had the springs changed to Eibach pro-kits, just about as soft as stock but lower from what i read. It's an improvement, but the dampening is still too harsh for me with the AGX's and they're on the softest settings.
I would like to hear from you guys what shock/strut and spring combos you're using and how the ride is so i can have a better idea of what kind of shocks/struts to look for. If you have been in a car with AGX's and can compare it to that it would be great. Thanks.

well if they agxs are too stiff for you, then you are kinda shit outta luck, because those are probably the softest aftermarket shocks that you can buy so id just go with oem if i were u.

yea thats crazy, cause I had AGX's and RSR race springs on a car, and it was fantastic for DD and track.

i used tokico HP's on my 97 civic coupe. they were basically stock replacements IMO. they were a waste of cash. then i upgraded them to Tokico Illumna R coilovers. they are the 5 way adjustable struts. MUCH improved. i drove around on the #5 (stiffest) setting all the time after a while. some people complain that the bumpy, jarring ride sometimes changes the settings on the struts. but i had them for 2+ years before selling the car. i have never once experienced this.
those are the only 2 i have experience with. sorry i cant help much more.

As of now the RSR race springs are for sale (in very good shape). Make a reasonable offer and tell me whether you need shipping or you can pick them up from NNJ.

I don't doubt it felt great for you, i guess we just all have different preferences. I have a 1993 NX2000 100% stock and i find that i have no trouble getting through curves and twisty roads at twice the speed of people with much "better" set-ups. Granted, the car may roll somewhat, or dive a little under heavy braking, but i just let the car do its thing, and i do my thing, and everything works great ;) Unless i'm building an honest-to-goodness race car or i'm going to be regularly exceeding 150mph, i don't need such stiff suspension as the setup mentioned above.
Lucky7, i appreciate your input. I think the coilovers might be a little expensive for me, and given what you said about the Tokico HP's and what punxva said about the AGX's, i may wind up going with oem and just keeping my Eibach pro-kits. We'll see.
Does anyone have experience with KYB GR-2's?

i have gr-2's on tein s-tech's and umm ya youd have to have hemiroids to thing that setup was too stiff.
idk about that whole twice as fast jazz... but ya i guess you'd want the less aggresive setup, like i have.
so perfect for you i guess

I have stock springs on GR-2's and they feel like a stock setup to me. I can't imagine it being much softer than the lowest setting on an AGX, but I could be wrong.
For me, it's not stiff enough, but it feels like a sporty stock suspension like it should be from the factory, no where near harsh, but still stiffer than a normal sedan or something.
I can't give you a comparison though because they came on the car when I bought it, and I've never been in another 240.

You might as well get either KYB gr-2's or Tokico HP's (pretty much oem replacement) if you think that agx's are too stiff. That is probally the only option you really have considering your riding on one of the softest springs in the market for S-chassis cars besides original equipement.

Thanks guys, it seems like if i replace the shocks/struts with anything i'd probably go with GR2's. They sound like what i'm looking for, sporty but not even close to being too stiff. I do wonder though how much softer they would be than the softest setting on the AGX.
I think before changing shocks i'm going to try 16" wheels. Right now i have 17's, and i know from past experience that wheel size can make a significant difference in ride harshness, all other things equal. Hopefully that change will be enough and i could avoid the extra expense and hassle of changing shocks.
Backroadtouge, by the way, maybe what i said came across differently than i intended - my point was that not many people that i've seen (myself included) who drive primarily on the streets use even the stock components to their limits very frequently, let alone upgraded parts. If someone has soft stock suspension in pretty much any car but they take good lines through curves, they will blow someone away who doesn't have any idea what lines to take, regardless of their car and set-up. Granted, if there were 2 equal drivers who could both exceed the limits of OEM parts driving in the same situation, the one with upgraded equipment could drive faster and with better control. But as you guessed, for myself the less aggressive setup will do just fine :-)

I also have the Tein springs/GR2 setup from above....it's a good streetable choice if you aren't looking to spend a whole heap on adjustables that you won't use. I don't do much, motorsport wise. I just drive the car daily. It's only slightly more unpleasent than stock if the road is really bad. But as you said, I'm on 18's currently.
