Sup Zians!?! I have had this clutch sitting for a couple of weeks in my office glaring at me. Last night/this a.m., was the magical night that my s14's drivetrain finally came together.
My build style is from the weakest link and from the ground up. I have had this 96 s14 for 2.5 months and the "new clutch" the previous owner installed went down to the rivets. The PPlate was like mr softy. On top of that, the flywheel had major wear from not having ever been resurfaced. 171K miles, can't complain.
Install was a breeze, was done on a lift. About 4.5 hours total, including a drive to the machine shop and watching the resurfacing of the F-wheel. Noticed the front U-joint was really stiff, almost binding. must address this soon. Installed a Delrin trans mount. Major vibes from this. lost 3 lbs or so for the weight conscious.
Initial engagement caught me by suprise backing out of the shop, chirping the rears. Engagement was about only about an inch from the top. I point a finger at the line/CMaster/Fluid, all being OE from 95.
After a day of driving, I will tell you this sucker grabs. A few Hill take-offs and I easily mastered the art of slow engagement. The 6 copper/ceramic pucks with a sprung hub, put every ounce of power through the drivetrain. The Pedal feel was firm but not ACT firm. A quick pedal release and the rear chirp hard, a quick shift to 2nd @5k leave a chirp and a wag. Running it up to 6k and another bark lets out of 3rd! I was amazed... granted, I am running the stock shadowed pizza cutters with 205/55-16 Yokohamas.
I really hope this clutch lasts through next years torture. My wife and I have plans on hitting many east coast events and AutoX's
Later - Comments and constructive criticism aaaiiight. :blah:
BTW- I have the following:
stage 2 Exedy
Rear Sub spacers
4.36 final
vlsd
Intake
N1 Dual exh.
proper tune up
Syn fluids
