Hey i changed my oil today and i made a hugh mistake.. after i put the oil filter on i went in and turned my car on.. ONLY for like 1 to 2 seconds. The thing i forgot was the oil.. i didn't have any oil in the car.. Is that going to damage my engine or turbo? I turned the car off right away. I filled up the oil and ran the car for a while.. Then i went to pick up my mom, and then i heard this wierd noise everytime my boost was comming up.. like even when i was at 0 psi i heard the noise.. the higher the boost the more noise it made.. it sounded like those old cars that need new engines.. it was some sort of puttering.. hope i didn't do any damage..

If you only ran the engine for just a couple seconds with out oil, then turned the car off, you shouldn't have damaged anything due to that. Most of the oil in the engine will drain down to the pan when the car has sat for more than 24 hours anyway. It is then upon first start up that the engine is running with out oil until the oil gets pumped back to the engine. This causes wear on the engine just for a bit, but is not enough to hurt anything for just a couple of seconds.

yep. no different than starting your car up in the morning i would think. when i worked at a oil change shop 4 years ago, this guy in a toyota truck wanted his radiator flushed and an oil change. they 'drained' his oil, then proceeded to do the radiator fluid exchange, and of course, to do that, you need to have the engine running for about oh 10-15 minutes straight. the engine had no oil for that whole time. i'm glad i didn't have anything to do with servicing that truck that time. the engine lived somehow!

I think you can run a toyota truck without oil for it's entire life and still be fine

My step-dad ran his little toyota pickup past 300k. I was too young at the time to realize how impressive that was. Now I am amazed

yea when i worked at an infiniti dealer one of the mechanics forgot to tighten the plug after changin the oil on a newer G20 with an SR20 and it somehow fell out on the customers way home... funny thing is, the customer drove all the way back to the dealer with no oil in his car to tell the service department to come to his house to clean up the oil in his driveway. i just don't get some people...
