gallon is the amount of some thing not the weight

like i filled up a gallon jug with sand it would weight more!! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'>

Gasoline is less dense than water.

A gallon is a measurement of volume, not mass.

Well in terms of weight i guess it would be havier if compered to woter, cause gas got more shit in it...i guess <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'>

why do you ask? &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'>

Gas would be lighter, but I'm not to sure about that one though &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dozingoff.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':zzz:'>

if you have any free time you can always buy a one gallon gas can, fill it up, and weight it.....i guess that who help &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'>

But hey I'm no rocket scientist

It's all about density. I think gas is lighter, but not by that much. m/v=p
m=mass
a=volume
p=should be a greek symbol, but is density...

Gas is lighter i can bet my left testicle on that one! &nbsp;Go Physical Science 101. &nbsp;I would go w/ the weighing both a gallon of water and a gallong of gas, idea that is metioned above.

i would still like to see some numbers on this <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'>

to find out for sure you could always mix the two substances ( gas and water) or ( oil and water ) together in a clear bottle. mix together a quater cup of each liquid and let them settle to see which one settles on top and which one settles on the bottom....kinda like vinager and oil. the one on top will be the lighter one.. this is how i would go about it but thats just me....

According to the Science and Technology Desk Reference, the weight of a gallon of common fuel (such as gasoline) is six pounds. A gallon of water, on the other hand, weighs about 8.4 pounds. As for the oil your on your own. &nbsp;Hope that helps.

Hehe, MarketPlayer owes his left testicle. A pound of water wieghs the same as a pound of gas <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

Anyhow, gas is less dense, I believe it's in the neigborhood of 2/3 the density of water (62lbs/ft^2 as opposed to 40something). The units could be off, but the point is it's less dense. oil is lighter as well, probably lighter than gasoline, but I don't know for sure.

now there is a rocket scienctist ancer LOL

ok i do know that if you mix oil and watter the oil will be heaver and sink to the bottem
