Is there a variation on the Kouki 97-98 taillights??

I've done several searches on several websites, and it's always something that has bothered me. My friend has a 97 which of course has the black taillights, and I have a 98. My 98 has like a wierd purplish housing as compared to a really deep black like on my buddy's. I have a 98 SE. I've seen like a handful of koukis with the purplish tails, and was wondering which version of the kouki's have which tails.

I think they just fade. There is only one part number for each of the 3 sections. Nissan never indicates any changes within that year range.

Ya, i think they are just more faded. My 97 has more purplish tails than my 98.

my black kouki had the most purplish ones, my white kouki the most prestine

my red one is in between

on a side note, the ones I got from Jhot did not have bulb socket holes on the corners to make them light up like US ones do

Yeah as Final Drive said,
The Japanese ones do NOT have the corner lights in the taillamp.
They are sealed up.
That would be the difference between kouki lights of the world.

Funny, when i bought my S14, both the rear corner bulbs were burnt out. Didnt realized till 2 yrs later that theres supposed to be lights in there when another kouki owner pointed it out. I thougth those bish were only reflectors...

hmmm.... I've had this car for the past 3 years. And it's always been very different. It only had 60k miles, the thought of it being faded never crossed my mind. The car had been hit on the side and as a result, the passenger tail is straight up black, whereas the other two pieces are a very light shade of purple. Fkn Nissan.

jdm doesnt have the corner LIGHT. its just a reflector
i had jdm ones before

I'm willing to bet you have a good chance of polishing that center portion to look deep black again.

Most of the time, tail light plastic is just oxidized. I restored my friend's AE86 tail lights to virtually brand new.

I would use something called Meguiar's Plastic Cleaner & Polish. They are 2 separate bottles, small bottles the height of a soda can. Just use a terry cloth or wax applicator and use the cleaner as you would do if you were cleaning stubborn dirt from dishes. I would try it 2 or 3 times to see if there are any results before giving up. It's worth a shot.
