It's an anime cartoon about drifting. I've only seen the battles stages ... so not to sure what the story line is. Its like whatever.

Its a anime CGI based cartoon that came out in 98 I think??? Not sure about the exact date though.
The series is about a young man/boy that delievers tofu for his father that runs a tofu shop. Well he just happens to deliver tofu in a highly modified AE86(which he does not know).
Well his junior year he ends up racing a really fast RX-7 cause his dad asks him to(a lot more to the story here though). OO ya at this point takumi(young delievery boy) has been delievering tofu for about 5 years(developed alot of skill in this time).
Well from there people start to challange him meanwhile he starts to realize he loves racing(takes about 4 races though). Theres a bunch more to the story line.. friendship... girly/love section... his father(which has mad skill).. and more.
there is several stages 1,(1 1/2 usui movie)2,3(movie) and a battle stage which you can all get off ebay for a good price.

Edit:
Ok - one thing to others that are Initial D fans... how often do you guys think takumi has to buy new tires?

initial D is the root cause of everything that is wrong with the current 240 trend.

initial D is a tool of the devil.

I think it came out in like 96 cuz they have the S14s (95-96)doing some sweet drifts and the damn Evo VII wasn't even in it yet. "booo-erns"

initial d is an extremely entertaining cartoon, I bought the first season, and even my buddies that hate the whole import scene got pissed when I'd watch it without them....but it's also brought on the ricer boys to the 240 world so it's got it's down side too

whoops i guess I watched it out of order, o well.

you have to admit though, it is a pretty good anime. It is pretty acurate, the writers did a good ass job. It is very entertaining, but like everything else in America about cars, it ruins the scene. At least it hasn't gotten really bad yet. It seems Hawaii has a lot of trouble with drifters. Initial D hasn't hit its peak in America just yet.

P.S. 95civicEX haha love the stuie (sp?) picture in your sig. Family guy is one funny ass cartoon.

EDIT: BTW the car in my sig is from Initial D. I won't bother telling you whose it is, don't wanna ruin the story.

How has initial D affected the U.S. 240 scene... First off all 180sx's get there ass kicked in the show. Second if you pay attention to the back ground cars most are 180's and are drove by amatures or assholes(guys that make fun of the eight-five then get smoked). The only 180 that gets a decent amount of attention is the Usui's blue sil80 and it even gets beat by takumi. Look at the 83-85 Corrolla... you dont see them everywhere state side with tofu stickers on the side.

I dont see why you have to hate so much Tnord.... Dont make me attack you with chop sticks.

that last comment was pretty amusing.

maybe initial D makes 240's look bad, i wouldn't know. i've never watched a single one. it just seems to me that everybody that talks about initial D also talks about "drifiting." hence i made the correlation between stupid "drifters," and people that watch it, even though there may be no correlation at all.

Initial D's portrayal of the S13 and S14 are something of a self-fulfilling prophecy, I guess

They're everywhere in the show, mostly in the background. Sure, the main character beats them, but he also beats some other killer machinery. It's always seemed like, in real life and in the show, that S-chassis cars are sort of the 'default' performance car in Japan, that people buy because they're quick and they're cheap and they're common. If someone made a cartoon about the US street racing scene you could replace all the S13's with Fox body Mustangs.

Lets not be placing the label of "root of all evil" in the 240 scene on an anime...Think about the supra scene before fast and furious its the same shit i guess, this shit happens in every scene and then it eventually dies down and the true fans are left. Hey Initial D is a great show, at least see it before you knock it man. Every technical/mechanical aspect of the show is very true to life there really arent many exaggerations (except that the main character Takumi can corner with a full cup of water and not spill a drop). Plus you gotta love the kickin eurobeat songs.

the "usui" movie you refer to is the one starring impact blue mako and sayuki, and actually took place half way thru 2nd stage. Because nakazato had already been defeated by emperor. Don't question my Initial D skills, I know everything .
