hey guys i got a 1989 single cam fastback
the problem i seem to be having is when i reverse or even drive forward and i turn the steering wheel a lot, and i switch it to drive and turn the steering wheel the other way, the car makes a thud sound. it sounds like its hitting something. could it be a bushing problem? the sound is coming from the front end so im sure its from there. what do u guys think it could be?

could be a bushing problem on your C-arms, could be your subframe bushings, if your car is lowered, and you have a "less expensive" exhaust it will often smack the diff carrier

could be just be spring noise. when your car is lowered the spring dont sit in tight like the oem ones so when u turn the wheel they make that noise. mines does the same noise came to find out it was my spring moving jus a tad.

Sounds like your tie rod ends are blown.

well my car is basically stock. so rite now im just trying to concentrate on fixing problems before i do any modifications to the car.
well now that i think about it...the sound is not a *thud* sound but more like a *ERRRRRR* im sure its not powersteering so i cant b that. the seller told me it might be the tc rods. would u guys think so too?

Time to get dirty and check. If the tc rods are oozing out fluid, have alot of dirty around it, dry, rotted, etc. It's time to replace them. Check everything else too while your under your car.

Depends on which route you take. You can get inserts for cheap or you can get aftermarket tension rods for more. I got myself splparts.com multilink parts.

If its not rods or bushing it might be the same problem back when i had a civic. If it only knocks when you turn, most likely you busted your CV boot and it's it takes a lot of work to fix.

Blown tc? Traction rods? Those are only in the rear.

And if you're talking about tension rods, they do tend to dry rot and leak our grease, but I've never heard of them causing a clunk.

I'm near sure it's your tie rod ends. If those are dried out then that will cause clunking. If you need to buy new ones, I suggest oem/tein/moog for oem style replacement.

But if you want to upgrade I suggest kazama. Or spl if they still offer them.

If its not rods or bushing it might be the same problem back when i had a civic. If it only knocks when you turn, most likely you busted your CV boot and it's it takes a lot of work to fix.
But your honda was front wheel drive. So when your turned and attempted to move that's what made the clunk so ever present.

Since his cv boots are in the rear and only move when the suspension has to move thorugh it's arc I highly doubt that's the problem. Not trying to flame, just educate.

well i still cant figure out the problem. i replaced my tie rod ends, and my tension rods but whenever i turn my steering wheel to the left, it still makes an ERRRR sound. i just dont get it. i guess 240s can never be "fixed"

ERRRR sound is often your powersteering pump or belt.

not tryig to hijack but i have a similar problem and was wondering if it could be related... usually happens when i reverse and turn the wheel right. it sounds like something is snapping but tension is being bulit up...now that i think about it, it could be the spring but how does one fix that?

You also have a ball join on your control arm. It might be gone. It would be easier to just replace the whole arm. While your at it, you might as well go with some poly bushings.

get under the car and have someone turn the wheel for u to the left and u should be able to figure out what it is relatively easily.
